a common progressive fantasy is that once conservatives see the consequences of climate change, they will have some sort of come to jesus moment - but it was always pretty obv to ppl paying attention that they were just gonna blame it on Deep State Flooding Tech and learn nothing

I’ve been trying to wrap my head around how the flooding in Texas became so devastating so quickly. Why not evacuate?? Then I saw this: Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said the Guadalupe River rose 26 feet in just 45 minutes, around 4 a.m. That doesn’t even seem natural.

Flash flooding is a natural phenomenon. The intensity, location & distribution of rainfall; the land use & topography; vegetation types & growth/density; soil type & soil water-content all determine just how quickly the flash flooding may occur & influence where it may occur. weather.gov/phi/FlashFlood…

Texas faces flooding frequently due to its geography. Flash floods, the top threat in Central Texas ("Flash Flood Alley"), occur multiple times yearly, peaking in spring/summer, with over 1,000 deaths since 1959. Moderate floods happen several times annually; major ones every few
When you’re in a hole stop condescending. There was cloud seeding going on that was suspended on July 2 out of caution that it could exacerbate the weather system. Flash-flooding is a natural phenomenon that’s rare enough that sometimes insufficient precautions are taken, like
Cloud seeding seems to be the emerging looney toon consensus. Never has a society been more cooked, it stated as a bit but now truly Xi save us our country yearns to be free
I am a fifth generation american cloud seeder. my father was a cloud seeder, his father was a cloud seeder, his father was a cloud seeder, and my son will be a cloud seeder. we aren't going anywhere.
A common progressive fantasy is that history started ten years ago, and that pretending this flood is a result of climate change and not typical to the area for demonstrable reasons. It’s as disconnected from the reality to the people blaming weather seeding. Neither seem aware
It's an entire generation gone. Just gone. How much of it manufactured by deeply cynical people backed by very deep pockets? How much of it grievance-filled people who have locked themselves into disinformation silos and have literally driven themselves to the point where the
You can blame "climate change," but there is 0 explanation known for how any series of natural or even unnatural events caused the most historically fast rise in water levels due to rainfall including in areas like this.
Let's stop blaming people and start building. We all know these floods occur and the Science has been pointing to this for at least 50 years. Build flood mitigation corridors and Geoengineer the beJesus out of this. Get some surveyors out there and map the areas hydrology!
So much climate change.

In 1987 and 2025, the Guadalupe River in Texas flooded after sudden July storms, each time causing deadly surges. Both floods followed intense, localized rainfall that hit the same region, overwhelming the river with little warning. Both times, youth camps were hit. Teens at

Yes. Scientists and engineers have always worked alongside charlatans who blame natural disasters on divine punishment.
The Texas Hill Country has always been subject to flash flooding. Just last year, we lost 10 folks outside San Antonio. This was just a perfect storm scenario, where lots of people were camping and did not have the Kerr County App that carried warnings.
Or perhaps, just maybe, we are aware that this kind of flooding has been occurring in the central Texas area since the beginning of recorded history there?
Are cloud seeding or global warming the only options when there is a flood? Sounds like two retarded sides of the same retard coin
Humans overcame the ice age, they can handle a little heat, we still get winter, so we don’t even have equator level weather in the temperate zones yet. But oh the bumper crop of apples and peaches and oranges when we do. Imagine big citrus trees in Connecticut, Maine,
Floods have occurred throughout world history. Blaming a single flood on cow farts is not science… it’s a religion.
how would knowledge of climate change stop flash flooding that has happened periodically in recorded history? or is this just a macabre attempt to gain political points from natural disaster?
We have had natural disasters for as long as I can remember and that was long before anyone came up with the global warming scam.
Every time the government brings up climate change solutions, it always involves taking away citizens' rights and freedoms away and doesn't actually solve the problem at all. It's not exactly a way to bring over the non believers
Ridiculous. More like bad weather happens periodically. Climate change is a hoax. But it is a wonderful grift for Democrats. No matter the weather, high taxes and Democrat empowerment are always the answer. To a problem that is never solved. Rinse and repeat.
This isnt climate change, jack. Unless you mean cloud seeding that happened 2 days prior to the flood. stfu
A common Progressive tool is word play. Climate Change should be manmade climate change or Anthropogenic climate change. Immigrants should be illegal immigrants Ambiguity is their mandate
You f****** people imagine every natural disaster that has been going on since the beginning of time is the result of capitalism. You are absurd people
Its evidence of "global warming" oh wait the scientific data actually shows we are in a cooling phase, quick rebrand it to "climate change" You're just as big a moron as the flat earth, chemtrail, weaponized weather idiots. Stfu.
They zoom right past the obvious explanation that global warming is intensifying extreme weather events (as predicted), and go straight for the deep state weather modification conspiracy. Our society is utterly cooked
It's crazy to think how many people genuinely will watch their worlds fall apart one day thanks to what we're doing to the planet and still not get it. It's sad as hell man
They won’t believe in verifiable scientific consensus yet will instantly believe in evil weather altering sci fi tech being used to drown people in the woods in Texas, not sure if it’s from their immense hatred of science, or that they get their worldview from movies and tv
i wonder if part of that is, on some level, people believe them when they say they're Christians. So progressives are hoping for some sort of Damascus Road moment. 1/2
This is beyond true. Realistically, they were sending $5 campaign donations to a guy claiming to be a billionaire. He sat back & watched as hundreds of thousands died & his press conferences are now looked at as SNL sketches. And still they support. Embarrassing
Even if they eventually accept climate change as fact, they'll just use it as an excuse for heightened zero-sum thinking. "Climate Change is real, therefor we have to invade and annex Canada for their fresh water supply!"
Covid showed they’ll always deny any element of reality that suggests they should care what happens to other people, even if it kills them.
what big event could change a person's view that they held dearly? aside from God appearing in the sky
"Conservatives seeing the light" is one of the most damaging beliefs that non-conservatives can rely on. Like everyone posting a few days ago about how the passage of the BBB will guarantee Democrat victories next year. A naive and unhelpful assumption.
We never got an official count on the freeze a few years ago I doubt they will give accurate count this time. They blamed green energy on that loss of power.
Yo, dude, I already said that.

Leftists will stand accused of sabotaging the warning system in TX to make climate change look worse. Relief funds will be said to be stretched thin by the "illegals". The sheer materiality of events won't change anything. The Earth's been changed; the point is to interpret it. x.com/Mikel_Jollett/…
Depends on how bad you think things need to be to break people out of delusion I think it will have to get substantially worse. Once Florida is submerged maybe they'll do something
Even if they did accept it, they'd just become even more psychotic about keeping refugees out, and enjoy watching the coastal cities flood.
i think progressives think that for more than just climate change, despite conservatives constantly proving that talking heads will just blame it on progressives and they'll be satisfied without thinking
Someone mentioned climate change, urbanisation and poor drainage infrastructure design and they were like "CLIMATE CHANGE ISN'T REAL, THIS WAS GEOENGINEERING." It fundamentally breaks their entire belief system to accept that there's a combination of pretty reasonable factors.
So invested in the “i told you so” that they don’t even care about the millions that will die for their stupidity. Schumer has been shrugging off the OBBB with a “they’ll be sorry”. No they won’t. They’ll be dead and we’ll still have to figure out what the hell to do
"It's not happening, but if it is happening it's not bad, but if it is bad it's not caused by human activity, but if it is caused by human activity the government did it."
I once talked to a bus driver in Alaska. He complained about the "climate change hoax" and then commented about how since he's lived there driving tourists to the glacier it's shrunk
Alternatively, many people have perfect understanding of climate change and its effects, but are sceptical that higher taxes will solve it.
Some conservatives might not be beyond help. I think the most effective strategy I've deployed on my chemtrails-believing, climate change-denying mom is every time either of us complains about the heat, I say "yeah and it's only gonna get worse for the rest of our lives. Anyway"
“Once they’re really proven wrong they’ll have to change their mind.” They’ve already been proven wrong hundreds of times over decades. When people are made to confront wrong beliefs they have (if they haven’t developed critical thinking) they’ll often double down
And, also that God always has a plan (even when supposed communications are spelled out)

A frightening real world example of the Parable of the Drowning Man/Two Boats and a Helicopter The GOP is focused on the past to the point that modern technology and knowledge is ignored; they refuse to engage with it en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parable_o
A conservative I met once complained that if leftists knew the Iraq war had been started by lies, leftists were just as much at fault for not stopping the war by all means possible (like overthrowing the gov’t)
It's amazing that they'll ignore the fact that we KNOW jets and cars and power plants are putting chemicals into the atmosphere that is causing increased rainfall (CO2) and instead look for magical chemtrails.
I always expected a certain segment of not just the United States but the world that denied climate change, and yes, blame it on hocus pocus even as the world burns, like the beginning of Interstellar, where even as the world is collapsing, science is outlawed.
This Same with the "in 10 years you'll act like you never agreed with ICE" Expecting 1) that they'll stop on their own & 2) that they'll act like they never really agreed with it instead of maintaining it was right JUST LIKE THEY'VE DONE WITH THE CONFEDERATES FOR 150 YEARS
Personally I'm just hoping the guy driving his fishing boat home without his truck might go "maybe... maybe I was wrong about climate change... Maybe."
