i wonder if everyone is just checked out and this is very low salience to everyone except niche politics enthusiasts
I can’t believe that anybody would support getting rid of regulations against bribing
Is it a comprehension problem?
Geezus
there are arguments for it in some cases although i don't think they apply to domestic bribes

this seems bad because the enforcement here actually protects US firms from **extortion**, right?
"we'd love to pay you but we will literally go to jail if we do that so. sorry"
but i'm open to other interpretations from subject matter experts. is there a case for this? x.com/unusual_whales…

The media won’t tell you, and woke liberals are clueless: Trump’s roaring comeback is driven by everyday Americans fed up with soaring bills, not obsessed about a dozen genders or the right to a transgender bathroom. #AbookThatChangesEverything #TrumpWon

This is part of the MAGA paradox. Their elected officials continue to get elected despite voting against the wishes of their constituents on some significant issues.
The main resolution to the puzzle is that both parties have a mix of popular and unpopular parts of their platform
The only people who say "Gulf of America" are those who stare at everybody around them to see the reaction.
I personally hate superficial change--names, categorization, etc. If you want to change something, it must offer tangible benefits via policy outcomes, scientific understanding, etc. Otherwise, you're just making my world more complicated (and I think this feeling is common).
Let’s dive into this week’s episode, where I discuss these key issues in the

There’s lots of confusing results from polling, take the NYT poll from a month ago with 3 differently worded questions on immigration that all effectively amount to 10’s of millions being deported
These polls are shit, they are only used to prop up a faulty premise for dumbfucks like J. chait
Americans hate when you change established names for stuff, liberals learned this lesson too
Can we assume that the people questioned for this poll were not hearing of these Trump executive orders for the first time when asked?
One hypothesis here: people instinctually most dislike change that affects them even slightly, when it isn’t obviously helping them.
People nearly universally just don't like names changing.
I'm a map change extremist—love when maps change slightly.

Trump voters:
"Doesn't matter. As long as I get cheaper groceries, I'll be-......oh wait...."
How is this how I found out about ending requiring govt employees to disclose gifts????
this also surprised me but I guess it may be a wrong priorities / reminder of the chaos and frivolities of Trump 1 thing?
This seems like a good example of what talked about. People oppose so they respond, but not in a way that would sway decision making.

I'm sure every region has its version of NYers still calling it the Battery Tunnel and other things by names that were officially changed decades ago. It's pointless and annoying.
What about McKinley? I think Gulf of America is stupid and so was renaming McKinley.
The chief lesson of the antiwoke backlash is people hate changing how they refer to things
Eh, I’m not. It's an unnecessary change, solves no problems, fixes nothing, and requires people to change a mental habit for no good reason. It's kinda in the same league as “Latinx” although admittedly less annoying.
really? not a single voter probably ever thought of it because it doesn't affect anything but Trump's ego. It's meaningless to our lives
Remember how Tim Walz kept saying over and over: Nobody asked for this. Nobody wants this.
Caring this much about what the dirty faegot masses say is disgustingly feminine behavior
People don't like change. Nobody was demanding this, so it's just "now I have to change what I say? Fuck you!"-style Americanism
That is very surprising given the ubiquitousness of moronic dipshittery in the country presently.
It’s really stupid and people are generally against renaming things and there was zero demand for it, but also it’s completely meaningless.
Well think about it - if you’re down there on the coast, Gulf of Mexico sounds a little exotic. Gulf of America sounds like your trailer’s about to be torn apart by MAGA flags during a hurrinado or some shit.
Also, many GOP voters are bad enough at geography as it stands.
I don’t think it’s surprising. It’s a conservative virtue signaling thing. Who gives a fuck if it’s Gulf of Mexico. It’s literally never been a problem in the past so who cares
It’s an unbelievably petty and juvenile idea. No American politician has ever proposed this. Not even English colonizers fighting the Spanish in Florida, circa early 1700s, suggested changing the name of the Gulf
Regarding the first poll question on the screenshot, please correct me if I'm wrong, but the Biden order which Trump rescinded merely required gov't employees to sign a pledge that they wouldn't take gifts, but didn't actually ban them from doing it (i.e. mandate their firing).
Why would you possibly be surprised by this? Literally no one asked for it or wants it.
