I think this is the right result in this case -- the Druckenmiller op-ed is both well-argued and (unusually for an opinion piece) newsworthy, since it's known Bessent cares about his opinion -- but I still don't like the precedent.

If his opinion is newsworthy, the right thing to do is to have a news piece titled like "People Close to Bessent Say He's Wrong" and they interview people and provide quotes.

I think that would *also* be an appropriate thing to do but I also think there is a role for op-eds that make news (Clooney on Biden in 2024 is another example)

in this case its understandable, but how is there ever going to be a druckenmiller in the future where they are allowed to use AI because people already respect their opinion. the precedent just eliminates the need to put a name to an article at some point in the future, which

The thing I struggle with here- is this all that different from having a staffer ghostwrite the piece? I have to think that has more or less been the norm for notables "writing" guest op-eds forever...

I bet you there were similar feelings about collecting data via search engine instead of a library in the past. If it's done right you can't tell the difference now. Soon it will be the same with AI.
