I think this is the right attitude to have about Alpha School. It'd be great if they can scalably deliver these results, but many people have claimed that and failed.

I've seen many models over past 25+ years that promised to fundamentally improve K-12 outcomes. None has proven both durable and scalable. Hence my interest yet healthy skepticism about Alpha School, which has made bold claims while offering little transparency or independent
We shouldn't reflexively shoot down new things - we should want them to succeed - but we should also not trust their self-declarations of having succeeded!
I think it's appropriate to assume that an ed intervention isn't working if the implementation team didn't build randomization into the design. Even more so if they *also* aren't transparent about their metrics.
I'm a big AI tutor believer but I really do wonder how much of this is just selection effects of ppl willing to pay top-of-market private school tuition
I'm a little more bullish on alpha school than the typical ed intervention. There interventions seem like they borrow a lot more from the cognitive psych literature on learning than a typical ed intervention.
Selection effects rule everything, but even if their results are "only" letting well off kids learn the same amount in less time while having fun, that'd be a pretty decent result
Recess can genuinely do this. Happy to send you our test scores. Most of the families we are starting to serve are also now low income, and we will test them next season as well to show improvement (we are testing them now as they come in). There will be many more data points
Want kids to learn better and faster, while actually enjoying it, the 1st outcome we need to address is drastically reducing traditional sit at a desk and stare at your teacher classroom time. Learning should be fun, and when it is it becomes effortless.
gotta be honest, I just can’t dislike the guy, even with all the ideological cruft, even after his slate of bad endorsements.
and I just don’t think Cuomo would have been a better mayor. if we are to have socialists, let them at least care like this about the nuts and bolts
