What's the hedge? Are you saying it's a hedge to say that he was old, but not 25th-amendment old? I don't find her to be particularly candid in general (replacement level politician), but nothing about that excerpt seems untruthful.
This matter-of-fact non-fiction cool history teacher style drives me crazy. Acting chill about this doesn’t make it chill.
She's a historically weak candidate. Both in personal appeal and in actual capabilities. She's Dan Quayle. She should be nowhere near consideration for the nomination.
His people are gonna attack her and she’ll walk this back in six months to say he was mashed potatoes.
At 81, Joe was "tired", but she still supported his reelection for 4 more years. Today Joe is barely alive. She knew he wasn't capable but stayed silent out of her own self-serving interest.
I think it’s a little boring and entirely candid/believable. No conspiracy, no “Dave”-style cover-up. What you call hedging reads to me like wrestling with a complicated situation.
Repeating the "he bombed at the debate because he was tired" line is bizarre (because it's a ridiculous excuse)
Hindsight is always 20/20. How much power do VPs really have? Ha. It was a particularly thorny situation all around. Wasn't a fan of Biden as the 2020 nominee with so much younger D talent. But if Trump had won in 2020, would we still be alive?
She's still making excuses for him. She refused to acknowledge his decline when it mattered, and passed on the chance to distinguish herself in any degree from his policies when given the chance. Like JD Vance's defense of Trump on the Epstein matter, this will be disqualifying
Hedging is core to her, and it is good to see she hasn't walked away from that. I hope she takes a little bit more risk in general on areas like immigration, trans or crime (before they cease being issues). Her unwillingness to take a stand against DEI is understandable.
I think the style is what really bristles honest correspondents, doesn't it? It's obviously euphemistic and evasive and insulting to the intelligence of non-partisans. A bit of honesty would cut through with independents much better than this base-orientated boilerplate.
"I don't think it's any surprise that the debate debacle happened after some Europe travel" then why did you allow it?!?! If it's so predictable, why didn't ANYONE prevent it?
Are you just assuming it's "not particularly candid" because it doesn't reinforce the narrative of a demented president hidden by a craven cover-up? What if the actual truth is the boring, universal fact that older people -- even fully competent, functional ones -- get tired?
She’s obviously hedging her political future here. If she prints “he was showing signs of dementia” then the obvious question is why was she complicit in the lie they gave to America that he was fine? Also most normal people also know in fact she was lying.
Harris: States unequivocally that Biden wasn't a spring chicken but wasn't the doddering old fool people thought. Silver: She didn't confirm my views, so she must be hedging.
I don’t see how this is any different from the (literal) party line when the DNC had circled the wagons in the immediate aftermath of The Debate. I hoped she’d come out of the experience as someone who could talk like she had nothing to lose and be brutally honest. Clearly not.
40+ international awards, a few bans, and just enough comedy to make you laugh. Pomegranate dares to ask: Is the hijab truly a choice? A bold, beautiful story that amplifies women’s voices and sparks the conversations many avoid. Watch, share, and cause a little good trouble.

Clearly a ghost writer. Never has she spoken as cogent a paragraph. She still has ambitions, so not surprising it is a big nothing burger.
They just can't stop lying. Even when we all know the truth. A simple moment of candor would go a long way. Maybe this explains the unelectability?
Kind of what i would expect given her past history. She was put into a candidacy she wasn’t really ready for. CA democrats essentially operate in a one party state so don’t know how to win nationally. You can already see it with Newsom
Using the "tired from travel" excuse is insulting to the intelligence of the reader and completely disqualifying for a 2028 run. Biden spent seven days in Camp David ahead of the debate. Time to clean house of everyone involved in last year's debacle and get new Dem leadership.
As someone who voted for her and plans on reading the book I think it’s obvious that Kamala will never really be an open book. Much of what she says it will be carefully scripted and trying to not ruffle any feathers particularly in the Dem base. That’s why she praises Biden
She glosses over the fact that Biden was in Delaware sequestered from view for 10 days pre-debate. This whole he flew around the world act doesn't work.
Harris insisted that at 81 Biden was fit to serve four more years. He would have been 86 when his second term fizzled out. She put her hope of succeeding an incapacitated old man above our country. In so doing she sold out all the values she claims to hold dear.

I dunno, I found it more than slightly amusing that she spent several paragraphs telling us what an incredible job she did fixing immigration root causes. Who knew how successful she was? Imagine how many 10s of millions more would have invaded without her. Thank you Kamala
