I don’t think people realize just how big of an impact batteries are already having on the grid.
In just a few years, batteries have completely taken over ancillary services in ERCOT.
The same will be true everywhere else soon.
It’s far more efficient to provide ancillary services with batteries than to keep a significant portion of thermal capacity on the sidelines.

Now, what does it do? Contingency Reserve - seems to be highly dependable and able to come on line should a unit drop or fail to come on line?
Do you know which demand response programs in ERCOT contribute most to battery revenues?
Made me think of freeway traffic congestion, how additional lanes was thought to be the answer. In this maybe we’ll have a different outcome, but 10 years ago AI wasn’t a thing, seems the more efficient we make the grid it is quickly taken advantage of.
