In the spring of 2010, I finally wanted to wrap my head around the Shakespeare book in Picard's ready room and tracked down a copy of the Globe Illustrated Shakespeare that is seen in Picard's hands in "Hide and Q". It took me ages to find the correct edition but this book is how
I then went through every episode of #StarTrekTNG and took DVD screenshots of the book in the ready room whenever it was visible. Then I used these blurry DVD screenshots, took the book and with squinty eyes, tried to identify the correct pages from the Globe Illustrated. This
But soon I realized that there were many pages seen in season 2-7 episodes that appeared nowhere in the Globe Illustrated. I realized another book must have been used in later seasons - and I managed to find it thanks to "Chain of Command I+II" - The Illustrated Shakespeare
Nobody had realized this before at that point, only the Globe Illustrated Shakespeare was widely known. And again, using blurry DVD screenshots (this was years before the HD remastering of TNG), I tracked down almost every double page seen in the later episodes. And then came the
Staring back at me on pages 354/355 of Volume I of the Annotated Shakespeare was none other than...a young and bearded Sir Patrick Stewart, playing Touchstone in the 1968 Royal Shakespeare Company production of "As You Like It"! I was awed and knew that I had discovered something
I first found the double page in "Qpid"↖️ but it also appeared in "Silicon Avatar"↗️, "True-Q"↙️ and "Descent I"↗️. I don't know whose idea it was to open the book on the page featuring a photo of Patrick Stewart. Did he notice? Was he in on it - we'll never know! There's one

I'll never forget the adrenaline kick I felt when I discovered this, the thought of sharing it with others at Ex Astris Scientia. In a way, I had my own private encounter with Sir Patrick Stewart. Something unique, something only I had, something nobody can ever take away from

This isn't something I read in the Star Trek Encyclopedia or the TNG Companion or the Nitpicker's Guide, like so many others. No, this is something only I could ever have found out because I tracked down the book and squinted at screenshots and had the diligence. This is my

And this is my Sir Patrick Stewart story to tell. He is so incredibly extraordinary that he is the only ST actor to appear as his character and with himself on screen at the same time. He is canon in the #StarTrek universe. And he will never be forgotten...until the 24th century

I wish I had met him in person. You see his character as Captain Picard, in some way, saved my life. I gravitated towards him as Captain. Picard, when I was going thru a dark depression, his powerful voice, kindness and control ,l felt safer. It’s weird to say this, but it’s the
I met him at the Captain’s Table in 2011 in Düsseldorf. The only convention I have ever attended to fulfil a lifetime wish. I had a minute with him during a photo shoot thanks to technical issues.
I just so glad that we got to see him play Picard one last time with that series, I’m truely saddened by his passing
