I’ve never seen single-payer enthusiasts grapple with the fact that it would require permanent liberal domination of the government or else folks would lose lifesaving care. Seems risky.

Because of federal rules, children covered by Medicaid won't be able to access vaccines that are no longer recommended by the federal government, even as children with private insurance will. talkingpointsmemo.com/news/rfk-jrs-r

Republicans should be utterly excluded from political power by any means necessary, yes

The media could not be played.
Every person who supports single payer I ask the same question: do you understand that every one of our peer nations, but for two, has a hybrid system? The two that run straight single-payer like Canada and the UK have tiny populations compared to us. Implement German hybrid
They want that anyway. Anyway, the flu shot is a waste of money and it's good that the government isn't paying for it. While I'm sure someone will come up with a 'study' saying this kills a billion people a year, in reality the effect, if any, will be lost in the noise.
I've long been skeptical of getting the funding to work and keeping disruption to a minimum in a sector that's 1/5 of the economy, but was theoretically in favor of single payer. After watching this admin, not so much.

I used to be much more in favor of single payer, but after watching Trump and RFK dismantle so much, I don't really want to rely on trusting future administrations to run it effectively.
Any single payor will have to decide what they will pay for and what they won’t. Medicare already does this. Also worth noting, what potential future physician would want to bank their next 12 year of education on the vagaries of the political ideologies in charge.
Seems you don’t talk to many people. Historically, across the globe, large social welfare programs become popular once passed, and so become virtually impossible to dismantle, politically benefitting the parties which enacted them and moving the window of debate elsewhere
Even with permanent liberal government, single payer necessitates the same rationing of care as any other system. In Canada, liberal governments solved the rationing problem by just killing the expensive patients.
I've heard them express the theory that M4A cannot happen unless socialists are in charge. Then, since no-one else can be trusted to defend M4A, they would need to remain in power indefinitely in order to protect it.
There are a large number of trans girls in favor of single payer and every time I encounter one I want to grab them and shake them around while yelling at them about what will obviously happen as a result.
Abdul El-Sayed proposes a federal reserve-style board of medicare directors, i thought you guys liked anti-popularist stuff like that
We’re not far from this administration banning lifesaving care privately. And only a bit over half the population is on private/non-ACA insurance and some significant fraction of those are government employees. Maybe encourage folks to vote for adults.
Liberals are very comfortable with the idea that, as happens in other countries, if the government does a bad job of handling government-run healthcare, they get turfed out in the next election. We want elections to be decided on more data points than just the price of gas.
Like Obamacare, and Medicare, and Medicaid, they are risky because they need to be defended actively. There is no one time switch to turn on such things, that's sausage making, aka laws. Otherwise there is just the struggle to keep the Republican bastards from turning them off!
You mean the way seniors do with Medicare and Medicaid right now? You mean how everybody with Obamacare has to deal with it right now? Republicans being gross and trying to remove people's healthcare is not a reason to not do it
