That chart is missing the "the West shifted most of their manufacturing to China", with 43% of China's output bound of the West.
Cumulative emissions is a nonsense measure. CO2 has a life of 70 years and Methane about 30 years. Emissions prior to 1955 are utterly irrelevant.
EU27 doesn't include the UK where the industrial revolution was centered for over a century, so this graph is a little off.
China’s leading on climate change but burns more coal that ALL the rest of the world combined. How can this be?
Not surprising given that China has become THE manufacturer to the world.
Integrate the curve to find the total CO2 emissions since record keeping. That gives you a fair representation of where China stands.
CO2 should be counted at point of consumption. China makes the goods the EU and US consume. Who's responsible for the CO2 then?
Perhaps consider the fact that significant CO2 China emissions result from manufacturing products that EU buys.
False, a level of global warming doesn't equal the sum of emitted CO2. There is a significant lag in climate response to CO2 level change.
Becaue EU just export its emissions. Consumption based emissions per capita is far higher in EU and US. So stop the nonsense
That's so unfair ! The Chinese don't believe in Global Warming, all they want to do is sell us stuff which we believe in, like solar panels and electric cars !
If China did not export a sausage then it would look differently , every import should be considered that shipping and freight pollute to supply demand .
“China’s cumulative contribution to climate change now exceeds that of Europe.”
That’s because Europe’s Green Transition simply sent all its industrial base to China.
Not on a per capita basis.
EU planned de-growth and shutting down of nuclear power plants will solve their climate change problem.
There is NO CONTRIBUTION by *any* country to #ClimateChange.
The whole #CO2 / #NetZero thing is pure nonsense, a scam to make money.
With few national leaders even bothering to turn up to #COP29 a lot of investors face losing their shirts - good!
Cumulative ?
What BS
Rebase CO emissions at 2000?
China has destroyed the Paris Treaty?
India will join in & do it next?
Oh, Trump2.0 just abandoned NZE futility!
It’s over!
China is making great efforts to switch to renewables for energy - more solar energy installed in 2023 than the rest of the world together in 2022 while climate deniers have just been voted into power in the US. "Drill baby drill!"
That'll be all those solar panels, wind turbines and EVs that they're building, utilising and exporting.
Bullsh*t squared. Forget what happened in 1850 -1960. That's sunk costs, water under the bridge. Start the analysis from 1961, add India and other major countries of outsourced industry, and then see where the graphs take us....
If you go by per capita, since the US
only has 354 million people and Europe 751 million people compared to the 1.45 billion of China..then China is not doing so bad with climate change in comparison with US and Europe.
And how about landmass and percentage of forestation?
China has a population over 2.5 times that of Europe and 4 times that of the US where you are a professor at Columbia University.
It clearly shows that you think Chinese people are worth far less than Europeans and Americans. Clearly you are an Imperialist.
China has three times as many people as the EU. And much of the products the West consumes and sells is being produced in China.
The honest measure is not by emission but by consumption.
How much of China's emissions are direct and indirect result of EU&US consumption?
Net per capita emissions by consumption and not only by country/area but also by deciles.
Could do with some warming today, CO2 is good for plants, makes a very modest but most welcome improvement in keeping our planet habitable but as Ole reports there is little "change" and no Crisis.

Does that chart include the US military, the world's #1 polluter?
