there's potentially a bipartisan case to be made about certain kinds of foreign wealth, but removing the people who build homes from the country is definitely bad.
Intuitively, I always viewed it as total consumption of housing approximately equals total production over time, and immigrants are average to low on the demand side but very disproportionate on the supply side so the net effect of immigration would be favorable to supply.
I suppose enforcing the tax laws raises the price of housing also. Imagine what would happen to housing prices if developers, their suppliers and employees could evade income and sales taxes.
