This is an inaccurate comparison. Bluesky has moderation tools that the users control and no algorithms that insert content that you don't have control over into your custom feeds.
Yes based on the interests you originally selected and on your network created by following other accounts. You can unpin the discover feed and make your own or subscribe to others. Instagram and X will push unrelated content into your feeds regardless of interests and boost their preferred posts.
Isn’t there content moderation on this site? Pretty sure I’ve see accounts suspended based on content
In theory. But they also seem to ignore quite a bit and do slaps on the wrist for things like encouraging murder.
Well that’s a major disappointment. Is there any social media site that bounces hateful and antagonistic people?
But here we have easy to use block lists. As you’ve no doubt found yourself on. That’s better. Each of us gets to decide.
Note that I didn’t decide to block you in spite of my disagreements. This is because I find your work a good starting point for figuring out my own ideas even if or rather especially if they’re in opposition to yours.
BlueSky has an aggressive content moderation system based on scolding.
I have seen some hidden posts due to "not complying with guidelines" so there is some form of moderation here.
There’s literally a content moderation setting plus dozens of content moderators to classify this stuff.
Seems weird that a site with no moderation employs over 100 moderators.
don't tell anybody that this is a company with a ceo and it'll all be fine
Couch Shrek the nonsense peddler is here. Hey Matt.
Does this sort of argue that it's the algorithm that creates the need for moderation? The algorithms push engagement, but that in turn pushes for hate speech, so you need moderators to push the throttle the other way.
Also, it’s straight up untrue that Bluesky doesn’t have content moderation. Several big accounts have already been banned for violating community guidelines. The EU and many countries require social media to have content moderation to operate there.
The problem, of course, is the intent behind the specific things that Meta decided are now okay. Because bullying trans people has been made more mainstream by rightwing dirtbags, it is now okay to bully trans people on their platform.
(ignoring the obvious fact that there *is* content moderation on Bluesky, but it's vastly different and way more hands-off in theory. Which I don't necessarily mind.)
It’s not about facts, it’s about momentum and vibes
I dunno I once put up a screenshot of something that included a woman in a bikini in the background and it automatically got flagged for sexual content... sigh.
Reading most of the comments, it seems like variations of “well actually” which when I read the link to Bluesky terms of use, it’s mostly but not entirely users to report perceived bad actors. How that works across multiple languages and cultures seems very challenging.
Putting aside that it's not true, why would it be funny if this were true?
Bluesky is the lib alternative to Twitter, not Facebook. There are far more tools against abuse, harassment, and misinformation here than on Twitter.
But Bluesky doesn’t force the “for you” feed on you. So you have more control over your experience. I think that makes a big deference if you are going to start getting more unwanted content on the other sites.
I can subscribe to blocklists, which seems to be sufficient. Toxic dirtbags get a distributed plonk almost immediately.
Don't know who's starter pack you came from
But YOURE WACK FOR THIS
Even if the joke was accurate, which it’s not, it still wouldn’t be a funny joke, because it’s Matt Yglesias.
If the lonely cherub chuckles softly to himself, in his dimly lit parlor with all the curtains drawn, will others on social media see the irony?
There is content moderation here, otherwise it would be swamped with porn and spam
Realistically any type of thorough content moderation is too expensive for Bluesky right now.
It's clearly more important for folks like you to be able to keep idiots out. Since I only follow specific people, I really don't care whether the platform moderates posts.
Yes but I’d rather replies not become a dumpster fire of ads and porn and trolls etc…
