I still don't get the Realpage thing. From my reading all it is is software that find the optimal rent for the type and location of units you own. It just aids in price discovery. How is it price fixing any more than looking up ebay prices for a collectable before you sell it?
The DOJ lawsuit alleges that RealPage isn't just aiding in price discovery, but rather is creating a backdoor mechanism for collusive pricing strategies. I think it's an interesting case in the age of algorithmic price-setting, and I don't think we should reflexively conclude

I guess we’ll see what conclusions the DOJ comes to down the road, but the constant jokey flippancy about RealPage from certain corners bums me out.
What is it that bums you out? People who say RealPage is not a major cause of rent inflation and is being used as a red herring to deflect attention from zoning?
We're watching radical, career politicians like Sherrod Brown DESTROY the American Dream at every turn. Homes are unaffordable, groceries have nearly TRIPLED in price and gas prices continue to spike. ARE YOU SICK OF CAREER POLITICIANS PUTTING YOU LAST?
possibly true!

You don’t get to grandstand about disingenuousness; our last interaction was you making a claim and then completely running away from actually substantiating it.

Who knew Adam Smith was talking about city council meetings: "People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices."

Similar things are happening in plumbing. ⬇️. My contractor noted it, my plumber has gotten ‘offers’ to have someone else bid for him using a ‘pricing book’ which maps out to about $500/hour (presumably he’d get, say, 80% of that?)

Interesting find. My gen contractor recently hinted something similar (collusion using SW package) about a series of egregiously overpriced bids for a fairly small plumbing effort (all 3 bids came in at almost same amount - equating to ~$2500 for 4 hours labor).
Why would I want more activity in Keynes's favorite high-multiplker sector and a lawsuit that probly wont do anything when I could just have the lawsuit

Classic Local News Moment to do a piece on how 10s of thousands of drivers are driving in bus lanes in DC and not interview a single bus rider or driver. Great stuff.

Have you been hit with a $100 bus-camera ticket in D.C. recently? More than 145,000 citations issued over the last 9 months.. totaling nearly $15 million in fines. Maryland drivers lead the way, then DC, VA, and all over. Here's what some drivers we spoke with had to say:

There's a lot of talk about how parents need to be less "helicopter-y" and while I agree, it often ignores the policies that have made that harder For ex, I thought parents were choosing to drive kids to school, but large numbers of them are forced to do so... (h/t )

I dont really understand this move. Without acquisition, US Steel will likely close plants and shed thousands of US jobs. Nippon will keep them open. Japan is one of our strongest allies. The plants are physically in the US & arent going overseas. What is going on here?
