Folks on this thread who are looking for a way to build performant apps should check out , which makes it easy to implement the patterns that e.g. Facebook uses to make their app so damn performant:
I don't know it's as true anymore as it was in 2013, but I do think it's a timeless lesson on performance vs. user perception.
I’d rather have the custom animation. The way iOS has been trending, any Apple loading animation makes me annoyed whereas a custom animation would be at least interesting to watch and shows some effort attention to detail by the developer.
So if the game is use the white background upon launching does that means it negatively affects the psychology of waiting?
Honestly this loader on the left seems to be just a bad one - no wonder people would feel that app is bad here since it even have an ugly loader
i attended a talk about this topic years ago and the speaker referenced some airliner that distracted from their egregiously long processing times for booking a flight (like 14 seconds or so) by making a cutesy animation of a plane loading, taxiing, and taking off. neat stuff.

That user belief actually has a kernel of truth on iOS. When the app is starting up, a launch view controller / storyboard is shown while the app is being loaded by the operating system. It can contain system UIViews but nothing custom. \
