Two things that are notable on this list: — Nothing to contradict the idea that Dems need to move to the center on cultural issues, crime, etc — Nothing on this list about climate! You could embrace all this and be seen as way more moderate than Biden was.

This was the original point about popularism. There really are popular progressive ideas. If you center those ideas *and do not push other unpopular ideas that crowd them out* you’ll do great and make meaningful progressive change.

People miss the point that while it’s OK to take hits to do good (eg obamacare) there’s no reason to take hits on something you won’t do anyway (decriminalize border crossing)

I mean this is exactly it. Harrris had these positions eventually, but no time to extricate old ideas. Also just a good environment for Trump’s 12 year campaign. The problem was always ALWAYS going to be the inflation spike.

As someone who is not of the Left, I’ve always loved the fact Lefties alienate regular people by focusing on niche, divisive issues like sports mascots. I feel comfortable stating this because Left politics is first and foremost performative and this will never change.

Indeed... Most are broadly popular among all Democrats, and not specific to the 6% of Americans that identify as Progressive. The rest (like M4A and rent control) are unworkable and profoundly unpopular to non-Progressives when you explain the trade-offs involved.

Unpopular ideas like what? Be specific Immigration isn't a real issue, it's demagoguery by and for bigots & the people who benefit from keeping bigots tilted like pundits and politicians Trans people exist, they aren't going to stop existing any more than gay people will.

OK, "we didn't lose that badly". EC vote, popular vote, Senate, House, CA propositions and DAs, rightward shift in almost every state/county. Hey, could have been worse!I Is anybody doing that centering?

Bernie and Biden tried to get Medicare dental through Senate. It was like a big center-piece of BBB! Manchin destroyed it. So Manchin is agains popularism and hurt us electorally? Also did you ever get your donations back from him?!?

I think you would have to do more than that. People associate democrats with the views of leftist activists so democrats will have to go further and make a point to repudiate the excesses.

She literally did center her campaign on precisely the most popular things in this list and didn’t push unpopular cultural ideas. And ppl didn’t vote for her bc they’ve been brain rotted by right wing disinfo and Democrats don’t have the spine to be confrontational about it.
