when American traffic engineers learn to limit themselves to two lanes and no shoulders they can have 1 urban highway as a treat.

Urbanists: “Highways ruin cities. Tear down the freeways.” Also Urbanists: “UwU I love Tokyo.” Tokyo: 200 miles of elevated highways.

This got popular and I'm going to mute notifications now, I just want to throw up two examples from my city which were built during the last military dictatorship, one is bad the other is worse. L: Sunk, shoulders, urban grid destroyed R: Elevated, no shoulders, grid maintained

You have a choice you can use that lane for emergency or for regular traffic. What you don’t get is to make the highway wider.
People don’t know what they want, but most agree they don’t like what theyve gotten from urban design.
It’s just pathetic people who grew up with no money no willingness to get a job and couldn’t afford a car in the freedom of mobility so then they move to a city and they start singing how amazing it is to not have what they couldn’t afford before
They didn’t limit themselves, the urban environment did. If they had the space that we do, I bet you their freeways would look a lot closer to ours. China basically proves this:

Tokyo’s highways are far closer together than American highways. They have more lanes in total.
Playing your fantasy sim-city type games on this platform.
We have excellent driving infrastructure in tokyo American urbanists are just braindead and think we need to make something bad to make something else good
