$100K/year H-1B visa fee + return to office means hours of commuting to work per week to do Zoom calls with international coworkers as outsourcing becomes the new norm.

No, remember the time zone difference means you do the Zoom calls at night when you get home from the office

A year? Silly me, assuming it was a one time fee. Leave it to Trump to turn tech work into a streaming service.

People keep saying this but the time conflicts won’t let it happen. Also lots of jobs tend to stay away from outsourcing as it’s not secure.New norm is companies moving to those countries and royally ruining themselves or hiring Americans and getting us back our high salaries that these h1-b visas ruinedYou already know which one they’ll pick

There will be a massive talent shortage. Outsourcing doesn’t work, especially with white collar jobs. It’s been tried, to spectacular failure. The only thing this will force is free education and loan forgiveness in the U.S., to bridge the talent shortage. Bernie Sanders must be smiling somewhere.

True. These idiots think more local jobs but don’t understand that it will be an economic loss for US. People on H1B earn, and spend money in the US. They contribute to US economy. Now, that money will go to outsourcing partners in India.

It will mean more local jobs. It’s bone headed to force it now. But let’s be frank. Most H1Bs get free tuition in their home countries & leverage that here, while homegrown talent are saddled with debt and stress. The time zone difference will kill outsourcing, and will force investments like free education in the U.S.

Who would have thought that what COVID failed, eventually, to do — to make a fully-remote, or just remote-first workplace the norm — racism, and bigotry would try to do again, shortly afterwards!

But then there's the bonus of also doing those zoom calls late at night from home with offshore teams after commuting

All that talent didn’t do much in India. Most were earning $66k on average. Are they gonna go build another me-too food delivery service in India?

The cool retro arcade in Odaiba was replaced by the Odaiba Retro Museum earlier this year. Not a lot of game stuff, but it does have a real set of Nintendo’s N&B Blocks! Very neat to hold this for real.
