The idea that intelligence is one single generalized quantity is wrong

Thereโ€™s a reason why in the animal kingdom, you have dogs and cats competing in very similar niches even tho dogs probably have twice the โ€œbrain power.โ€ Much of dog brain power is for social interactions. Kind of like for dolphins how a lot of that brain mass is for echolocation.
Yes my view on this is "capabilities over consciousness" Eg. we don't ask if a calculator can think, we just ask if it can add integers I think Turing was kinda getting at this with his famous test too, that you can't really define "think" but can test what the machine does
Marvin Minsky characterized words such as "intelligence" as "suitcase words". When you open up the suitcase, you find a whole lot of different things inside.
Or that it is a quantity at all. Intelligence is a feature of sentience i.e. the mind; not of the brain nor any program - no matter how intelligible the output. It is a behavior - like language & like knowledge - specifically, the intentionality of discernment & disambiguation
Honestly the problem is that people humanize these programs. With a slightly more technical wording and prompts it will give perfectly fine results. I'm not sure on what i would want to question intelligence.

From what I've read about split brains it seems to me that we may not even really be one generalized "intelligence" or "identity" in the first place. So general AI ending up being a synthesis of a bunch of disparate subsystems seems...probable. ๐Ÿ˜„
For some reason, the previous version got the correct answer. But GPT-4 just refused to accept there are 3. AI is getting dumber lol.
IQ discourse and standardized testing has fried people's brain on the depth of the questions "what does it MEAN to be intelligent?" and "what does it MEAN to be an agent?"
More importantly intelligence is like beauty it only exists in the eye of the beholder. You'll get to AGI the same day you get consensus on who is more beautiful Salma Hayek or Kiera Knightly.
Man, this looks like Blockchain all over. Take 1000x more compute/time to solve a problem that a simple Database can.
I donโ€™t think thatโ€™s ever been the claim? Itโ€™s that there is a strong generalized component. Itโ€™s a biological factor. Certain hardware in humans broadly increases brain performance.
