Naming them bus lanes was the worst political decision Urbanists have ever made These are Police and Fire Hero lanes, which buses are allowed to use in a "bus emergency" (carrying passengers)

Of course BUS ONLY LANES allow for emergency use by FDNY, NYPD, EMS & more. Queens’ Northern Blvd is a perfect example of a well-functioning bus lane for transit and those in need. So is crosstown 14th St in Manhattan. @MTA @StreetsblogNYC @voteshekar @jessicaramosqns @votejgr

When I'm mayor I'm painting blue Cop Lanes all over the city You can't take a lane away from the Troops! This thin blue lane is the only thing protecting us from urban chaos (car traffic)
I think some agencies genuinely just need to have it reframed in their minds that these lanes are *for them* It's bad that LA's firefighters are confused! But I hope they're genuinely confused & not somehow opposed to response times becoming *too fast*

The firefighters union was the only major group to oppose hundreds of miles of bus lanes in LA. Almost makes you wonder if appeals to "response times" for various other unsafe mandates, e.g. wide street lanes and curb radaii, are totally arbitrary and unscientific. x.com/Streetfilms/st…
Oh F dude don't do that! That's what the USSR did. Do you not see what that sounds like? Sometimes I think Urbanists view most of their fellow humanity as if they're aliens from outer space.
I propose that we label them emergency lanes and post signs like this. Makes it feel more positive since I’d think the average driver would like the existence of a dedicated lane of travel for emergency vehicles.

Absolutely not. We need to avoid ceding the public realm to authoritarianism. It may be useful and accurate to call them "priority lanes," which appropriately recognizes moving people as a priority and also allows for the occasional emergency movement.
That’s ridiculous! Their purpose is to promote bus usage by accelerating busses. Stop using language charades and convince people to behave reasonable, i.e. to use public transport.
Our local city council rejected BRT a few weeks ago- one of the criticisms before the vote against the project was the bus lanes would delay emergency vehicles... So frustrating
Same with bike lanes, rename those as well and paint them blue or something and label them with guns.

I really detest the fact that my fellow citizen is too stupid to understand simple concepts like this that they have to be tricked by wordplay to support things they’d otherwise reflexively criticize.
