No matter how bad you think the euthanasia stories coming out of Canada are, there's always a worse one.

The other point to make here (re the “MAD provider” driving the man to his death) is that most MAiD assessments and killings in Canada are done by a very small number of doctors and nurses. Some make it their full-time career.

The Canadian doctor Liz Carr interviews in this is one of the most frightening people I have ever seen.

I don’t hear stories like this coming out of the US states where it’s legal. Wondering why And disclaimer - someone extremely close to me chose to go early after a terminal diagnosis in Oregon. I hope we can talk about safeguards and why people want the right to die without

In Oregon there have been cases of euthanasia for eating disorders. There isn't a single jurisdiction about which such stories cannot be told.
This sounds not like euthanasia but assisted suicide... The difference shouldn’t be treated so arbitrarily in Canada. Intuitively: what’s better or worse - you administering it yourself or someone doing it for you? In Switzerland/Germany, you also thankfully need at least

It is an extremely unethical program, to put it mildly. The original 2015 supreme court decision legalizing MAID was a mistake, the decisions expanding it were even worse. The way things are going it won't be long before we have no restrictions on MAID whatsoever.
Out of interest why do think it remains so popular in Canada despite all these stories? I'd have thought it would make some dent in the numbers.
Normalisation. Once you get used to it it's hard to row back. A decade ago not even the most insane MAiD proponent in Canada would have defended this.
Canadian here. This is a false story and if true needs to be reported to police authorities. What I know to be true is that people requesting services of MAID must apply,+ go through intense discussions with professionals. It isn’t easy to do, many stipulations. As should be.
I'm Canadian too. This is in the Globe & Mail, quoting a report commissioned by the Ontario Chief Coroner. Nothing described in that paragraph is illegal under existing MAiD legislation.
What are financial arrangements involved here? Are these providers paid for every vulnerable person they convince to kill themselves?
Does “MAID provider” mean a private company that is being paid by the state to kill people?
What was the age of the man? If over 18, his family need not be consulted. Name the psychiatrist. I call bullshit. Provide some reputable sources. This is = “my land lady’s cousin’s brother in law had a hang nail and his mechanic told him to get MAiD.
Facing the prospect of a long prison sentence, a person convicted of a serious crime is intractably and severely depressed. Eligible for MAiD? Would MAiD be offered? Has this scenario yet arisen? If not, what odds on it arising in (say) the next 5 years?
There have been cases of Canadian prisoners getting MAiD and we are on track to legalise it for mental illness in 2027.
It should have been merciful, legal, and rare. It has become an unjustifiable practice in the hands of doctors and ideologists that think having no respect for human life is a virtue.
what music do you listen to driving him to his death? Funeral march on repeat?
Canadian single payer healthcare provides fast and reliable service for assisted suicides but there is usually a long wait for orthoscopic knee surgery.
This is murder. There’s no other way of framing it. Repackaged as banality of evil type stuff, “the MAID provider drove him to the location”.
