You don’t get it! Japanese people are required to work from 8 to 6 and sometimes go drinking once a week! It’s literally a hellscape. *Slack pings at 3AM, panics and answers 5 emails*
Japan has that million yen wall thing where tons of women work part time to stay under the limit so they can be claimed as a dependent. In addition companies don't report overtime properly because they'd have to pay extra salary if they did.
it's gotten much better over the years. There are still very high expectations while receiving a low compensation but Karoshi level of work hours is pretty rare and its not like there is no protection for those workers. If someone dies from karoshi its darwin award at this point
