Texas is already more than 50% renewable energy, and there's a decent chance that by next year Wind overtakes Natural Gas as the single biggest source.
None of this is because Texas Republicans care about climate change. It's because their regulations let wind/solar build fast.

Texan here who just retired from a legal career in which I did a LOT of energy work. I can confirm that what you say here is 100% correct.
It is more that in the 70s when federal government put price control on natural gas, Texas decided to stop exporting natural gas. While rest of country built out "clean coal" with power plants and 70 year payback, Texas used gas units. So Texas had the power infrastructure to
And there's plentiful space and plentiful cheap gas against which PPAs can be priced fairly low. Not exactly a repeatable experiment across the states.
Your plan to legalize building things pales in comparison to my plan of banning development and subsidizing demand.
Careful. I think you mean renewables are 50% of the energy consumed to produce electricity. Generally, electricity is about 20% of power consumed?
Federal regulations make it impossible for fossil fuels to compete, so renewables get built in their lax energy regulatory environment.
At this point we just have to face the reality that blue state governance is inferior. Democrats have some things to learn from Texas.
Meanwhile, in regulation burdened California, wind and solar is...well, about 56% of total supply at the moment.

Sometimes less is more.
Obv, not all regulations are created equal. So it's sloppy to talk about them as if they're all equally bad (or good). They aren't. We wouldn't want a country or a state that is regulation free.
Still, sometimes less is more.
Solar is fast. It got 15% in 6 years, wind needed 1.5x more time for the same result.
Solar is also fast growing everywhere because it's one of the most economic ways now to generate power. The cost of panels have fallen a ton. Plus battery storage.

Bragging that Green New Deal scam subsidies for unreliable power sources are making them surpass proven & RELIABLE energy sources isn't the flex you think it is.
Yes but it is a march of 9s. Let’s say you can get 90%. Going to 99% is 10x harder. And each additional 9 is also 10x harder. You need at least 5 9s before you can completely rely on renewables.
Let it be a lesson! If we let people build stuff peoples lives get better.
Rhymes with Austin and declining rents even as rents in mich of the nation grow.
