Interesting back and forth. Ezra describes the HF incident, Jensen says "well they shouldn't release the product." Ezra says "this product wasn't released," and Jensen's response is that if they say they can't contain their experiments then "we have to shut the labs down"

Unfortunate that this great exchange isn't likely to change Jensen's other public comments. He's claiming we can use product liability to cover lab leaks, which doesn't make sense. And he owns HF but isn't suing or pressing charges.

He shouldn’t give that premise any airtime. The Hugging Face incident happened because OpenAI reduced cyber safeguards, put the model in a leaky sandbox and gave it a poorly specified goal. It was entirely preventable. Ergo, they are liable.

Not at all correct. He is saying doomerism is poisoning the discourse, that OAI and anthropic need to be able to test their models and products before release, that independent audits and oversight is a good thing and that media is essentially sensationalizing things like the HF

He's completely right. and it's the most obvious and reasonable thing to say. The thing you're making is unreasonably dangerous? fix it. you don't know how to fix it? OK, stop doing it! Literally the most obvious thing ever. "But AI is different" doesn't matter it's all still

Other than this slightly out of context quote, I thought Ezra let Jensen steamroll him. If I’m not mistaken, not once did he talk about Jensen’s Economic stake in the success of AI.
