What about the idea that a contested primary could have sharpened and better defined her own platform? Or even pushed her to create distance from Biden?
Did Humphrey & Mondale win elections outside Minnesota before LBJ & Carter picked them? What about Gore? How many did he win outside Tennessee before 1992? And Nixon? I don’t recall any elections he won outside California before 1952?
I don't see how we can know whether Harris would have been "extremely likely" to win a contested primary. In the 2020 primary she seemed like she would be formidable but then she spoke and people remembered that nothing she says makes any sense, so she flopped.
There's a decent chance that if Kamala Harris wasn't the VP, he never becomes President or that the election is so close that the electoral scheme of Trump wins. Winning Arizona and George was vital not from an EC standpoint but to weaken the ability to alter the results
But wait, how many VP nominees have ever won an election outside their home state? Is the issue that the state was California, which is too liberal?
I'm closer to agreeing to this take. I think evidence backs the idea the more people get to know Harris the less they like her, so her having a shortened campaign helped her in that respect Where she bombed was the direction she took her campaign in.
When you look at the possible array of 2024 candidates you don't really see a knockout alternative available. Harris would likely have won any primary whether in January or in August.
I may be hallucinating this, but I could've sworn he had one of his patented off-the-cuff moments at a 2019 rally where he talked about his VP pick being a POC woman. And after that statement, in that time period, there was zero chance he could go back on that "promise"
Who could have ever seen this coming

Are there still people who don’t think he flubbed the VP pick? Every book written from inside this White House after Biden leaves office will admit as much
For all of you questioning whether Kamala would have won a contested primary, she was the incumbent Vice President. They always win the primary.
Why on Earth would you assume Kamala would win a contested primary, no history or evidence exists to support that at all
How was she "extremely likely" to win a contested primary, at least one with a traditional calender? She is an atrocious campaigner, and the longer she was out there, the less people liked her.
Harris didn't even make it past Iowa in the 2020 primary. What do you even mean she'd likely win a contested primary in 2024?
Would Whitmer have won though? Think you ought to pick someone who has a nation wide (not just state wide) appeal, whose communications cut through the noise. Whitmer doesn't appear to have that skillset VS say Pete or Booker or someone like that
She also would have had to tack left during the primary, which would hurt her in the general. Re winning only in CA, note that she won after a jungle primary, which is some evidence of appeal to moderates. And of course she had a law enforcement background.
Imagine what she how many votes Harris could have won if she were capable of doing a sit down interview with any interrogators more skeptical than the hosts of The View.
Correct. The single largest polling turnaround I’ve seen in modern politics was the 3 weeks after Biden dropped out when all they did was have walz stand on stage and call republicans weird couch fuckers
I'm sorry, how is a California resident supposed to win an election outside of California which they obviously can not run in? Think about how silly that is. The only race she could run outside CA is VP and President...
She wasn't extremely likely to win jack shit. She flamed out of the 2020 race before one vote was cast. She was even running behind Yang in California. Just an all-around terrible politician who was foisted on us by the establishment.
But a contested primary starting in 2023 could have allowed actual contenders to enter the race—and no one would have to say they are sticking to the Biden agenda tout court to save face.
“Never won an election outside if California” is an odd comment. Her only option would have been through another primary/ convention, as w her peers, yet it’s unclear how winning Dem primaries would have helped her in the general election w the influx of more moderate voters.
People like you will never change. 1) as Biden would say, absolute MALARKEY that he didn’t want to pick Harris as his VP 2) LOL at the stupid narrative that her past positions mattered when Trump changes his mind 100s of times a day. It was all media & mass delusion.
Kamala didn't even go thru with the vote in the California primary in 2020,she polled BELOW ANDREW YANG, the idea that she would have won a contested primary is insane.
Was Obama hurt because Biden had never won an election outside Delaware? It's like you guys don't understand the role Black people and women play in the Democratic Party. The Harris picked energized his campaign after that contentious primary.
WTF? She had never won an election outside of a deep blue area? I mean didn't she win the 2020 national election as the VP? Are you purposefully stupid?
Harris would not have won a contested primary. She is, was and has always been a terrible candidate. She believes in nothing and stands for nothing.
it’s insane you people make money with these takes-what vp ever won anything other than a state. also the vps-mondale, bush, gore CHENEY! Plain and simple Clinton and Harris couldn’t get white women.
