people use the LFL on my street pretty indiscriminately for books, DVDs, CDs, and shelf stable food!
A bit nostalgic, but trips to the Blockbuster on a random Friday evening between ~1987-1995 were pretty great family/friend outings.
Might snag a latest release from the back wall or a great old comedy you wanted to watch for the 10th time.
Maybe even some Dots or twizzlers.

As someone who lives a quarter mile away from the last actual Blockbuster on Earth, I support this movement.

In Atlanta I drove many miles to go to Videodrome for much the same experience. If I now lived close to one of those places, I’d be Letterboxin’ movies a lot more often.
There is also a cool chocolate lab that gets walked in this area that is always carrying around the biggest stick he can find and it always makes my day when I see him

I remember when Netflix was a mail DVD service - watch and drop back in the mailbox.
What a cool idea. Now I know what to do with my hoarder husband's 1000s of DVDs. I may throw in a few CDs as well. 😄
There are still DVD rent-by-mail services that have dedicated customers. They're always looking to expand their collections! I use CafeDVD. There's also DVDInbox.

There are used bookstores that also sell used CDs. Try looking around locally or asking your local library. They may be interested.
For people like me who can't read more than 10 minutes into a book without falling asleep.
I would love to read books but my brain won't let me.
Even $60 seems a little high to me. They're remarkably affordable nowadays.
I saw one in the ~$44 range before bestbuy booted me from the website.
Walmart's "in store" Onn ones are $40 (or $80 for blu-ray).
I think my blu-ray player was like $3 from a thrift shop. Goodwill pretty routinely has them for $10 or less.

If you want one new, you can get one for $25-30 (see link)

Oh awesome. My elementary school aged kid just discovered DVDs because his favorite movie disappeared from the streamers and he is *obsessed* with them now.
We have an old newspaper stand for ‘Take a Zine, leave a Zine.’ The thing is magical and will get you 30 years-to-life in the US.
Most public libraries have extensive DVDs to loan for free too! An excellent resource.

Not the same kind of fun but there is a LFL of just grief books. Hopefully people who need it find it.
Those will get stolen. Or busted. We had a library for books down the road but some asses took out all the books and tore them up. So now no one uses it. Unfortunately there will always be someone who doesn't like the selection that will destroy it for everyone else

Movie posters- it was my side hustle, I worked in a movie house, lived near a college and sold posters to freshmen.
I love the idea, but I don't think I'd have been able to participate in this in probably 15 years
Some enterprising pawn shop owner should drop a bunch of 50% off DVD player coupons in there, get rid of some unsalable inventory.
The secondhand book shop near me stopped buying DVDs - “Nobody Fucking buys these things anymore”

I've been putting DVDs and magazines in Little Free Libraries because--you can also get DVDs and magazines at regular libraries.
Perfect!!! Next to it can do discs & cassettes for music! I have hundreds.

Why do people love blockbuster so much, libraries are better.
I was alive during blockbuster, I only remember people complaining how expensive it was.

I miss Blockbuster. Going to the local store was like a planned ritual like going to church or synagogue.
