This isn't causally informative, but it's a start at getting at the possibility that Ozempic really helps with addiction writ large, not just food addiction.

Actually, the data on alcohol is stronger and replicated in several wells. This research group I know well and has previously published on alcohol.
Was out of out of (out of pocket) Ozempic for a while. Hour after shot even the idea of alcohol is refreshed as entirely uninteresting. I was extremely surprised how stark it was.
it seems you had preconceived biases and the paper only reenforced them?
anyways i thought ozempic worked by slowing down shit moving through your gut, aka physically slowing digestion, not mentally...
The mechanism of action is not gastroparesis or otherwise slowed digestion, it's cremieux.xyz/p/the-worst-ar
Well if we know semaglutide binds with GLP-1 in the nucleus accumbens, & we know that GLP-1 in the nucleus accumbens is part of the reward system that drives addiction, we have a rough idea that semaglutide is breaking the addiction cycle.
time to start pumping it in the municipal water supply along with the fluoride.
Since opioid addicts are often *very* underweight, starting them on ozempic could have downsides.

If you do hard drugs not much anyone can do to help you. Also, unless you have diabetes, pivot to having self control with food.
Hear me out:
>people lose weight

Oh fuck. Thats a wrap. What a wonder drug. A large part of the drug addict problem may have been solved.
Ozempic users report nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and GI issues as common side effects. Serious risks include thyroid tumors, pancreatitis, hypoglycemia, and kidney problems. Make sure you post the positive and negative aspects.
Ozempic works wonders I lost a lot of weight on it and I feel great. Just sayin. sells
Alcohol, along with the better-known risks of smoking and obesity, is one of the "potentially modifiable risk factors" driving tens of thousands of cancer cases a year.
A next question for GLP-1's re addiction s/d be abt dosing. Does it require the weigh loss lvl dose to get the bennies of addiction trmt? Does it need to be tappered
or
depending on the individual?
Seems like GLP-1's have a yet not understood ability to go thru the
barrier that is not possible w/other Rx. Given that food addiction is a real behavior, I'm glad GLP-1's are proving this.
Are there any potential conflicts of interest in some of these studies about the drug? That's a key question I'd ask when things seem too good to be true
Then again, though, maybe Ozempic is the latest Ivermectin, Tylenol, or Penicillin (core drug in the medical repertoire).
"Related to" and "Ozempic reduces" are not the same. The evidence is indirect and does not inspire confidence.

Any data about stimulant addictions? I think so far that has the fewest interventions of any sort of addiction, if any.
I drink much less alcohol now! It really curbs the craving to have “just one more” beer.
I guess there is no money left for opioids if you're on Ozempic...
Who wants to bet that that GLP-1s get subsidized for addiction therapy before obesity treatment?
Makes me wonder if addiction is somehow psychologically tied to the same brain mechanisms related to hunger and that is why it is so hard to resist, hungry people eat the craziest shit.
It always seemed like being fat was more of a food addiction thing than being lazy to me
Reducing risk of overdose would increase risk of addiction. Not decrease.
New estimates show that a revised risk calculator for cardiovascular disease places far fewer Americans — as many as 40% less — as candidates for cholesterol-lowering drugs.
You could also just have self control and not be a disgusting, fat, drug addicted retard.
I've heard it is helping those who suffer alcohol addictions anecdotally.
Maybe there is a study on that as well.
Very interesting
Mechanism of effect on alcohol & other recreational drugs (namely cocaine) is through activity on the stomach dopaminergic pathways
Perhaps it’s reducing consumption of fentanyl-laced drugs of other types
Waiting for the other shoe to drop. Surely it can't be a miracle cure with no downsides right?
