To be clear: It's possible the government has some technical grounds under the Patriot Act which it can use to deport him. I'm sure we'll learn more. But this is part of a wider retribution effort over protests Trump and many of his supporters opposed.
Like I said, it's quite possible this guy said things that would fall afoul of the PATRIOT Act. It's a separate Q whether that umbrella is unconstitutionally wide, and yet another whether this application is in keeping with the spirit of free speech.

Really straightforward why Mahmoud Khalil is getting deported You don’t get to endorse or espouse terrorist activity as a non-citizen - even if you have a green card Bye bye

Save and send these three images of 8 USC 1182 and 8 USC 1227 to anyone who says it is unlawful to deport non-citizens and non-nationals for expressing support for terrorist activities / organizations, or for any foreign policy reason at the discretion of the Secretary of State.

Student activism at Columbia went far beyond the bounds of protected speech. They took over large portions of the campus for months and made those areas hostile to Jews in violation of their civil rights. For this, all the foreign activists deserve to be deported and the
In agreement with you. Freedom of speech applies to speech the you might despise. I have no idea if there is more to this story because I don't trust the but article states he was a permanent resident, married to an American. I don't like this at all.
No, cruelty towards civilizational enemies is a good thing. He should have never been allowed into America or anywhere in the West in the first place. Deporting him is only remedying an existing wrong

The universities just need to follow this simple trick: ✅ Speaking about policy, showing documentaries, and forming interest groups is O.K. and must be allowed. 🚫 Occupying buildings, preventing freedom of movement, and assaulting people is NOT O.K. and should be punished by x.com/jangelooff/sta…

I'm a free speech absolutist. But if a foreigner gets the opportunity to study in this country but decides to dedicate this time to organizing protests, he should be deported.
Nah. Hamas is a terrorist organization, he is affiliated with Hamas, and hates America, his Green Card is a probation period before citizenship, and he violated it. Fuck this POS. And for you to think that promoting violence is free speech, fuck you too.
Will be interesting to see how his habeas corpus petition shakes out. That he has a green card and not the expected student visa was a real fly in the ointment for ICE. The Secretary of State can cancel the latter but not the former.

Willful participation in violent activities, unlawfully disrupting college classes & intimidating people for being Jewish are not free speech. It is actually an assault on civilization. More egregious by people who lead such behavior, like this soon-to-be-deported turd.
No such thing as a constitutional right for an alien to remain in the USA. That's the law, and I've yet to see a lawyer weigh in to say Trump can't do this. I don't like this and if it up to me Khalil would stay. But you keep screwing around, things happen
Free Speech is not an absolute. And especially when this man’s “free speech” abridged the free speech and freedom of assembly of others. He was admitted to America on condition that he not break laws or abridge others’ rights. He didn’t comply. Consequences!
I absolutely do not recognize speech rights of foreigners. We don't allow them to make contributions to our political campaigns, even though that's a fundamental speech right. People literally go to prison for that.
It’s not like his speech is original. We’ll still hear all the same inane slogans from his proteges.
If you can disappear Green card holders without a warrant and a charge, how long will it take before citizens are disappeared?
"I didn't like everything that transpired at Columbia" is one hell of a way to whitewash what pro Hamas agitators like Khalil did. You don't have a right to distribute Hamas propaganda fliers and take over building violently and cause thousands of dollars of damage.
I hope you are not Jewish because conservatives should really rethink backing antisemitism when Jews chose grandstanding instead.
No. He was trespassing on a closed campus and no longer a student there. He harassed and intimidated, he organized and terrorized. Sick.
Yeah supporting terrorist organizations violates the conduct expected of people in the country temporarily. Send him home and a few more of his friends
total lie vandalizing property, unlawfully detaining American students and depriving them of classes they paid for are not "free speech" nice try, traitor you aren't a Jew, you are a kapo
So Jordan. You would be in favor of KKK members showing up on campus and saying the same things and chasing blacks into hiding on their own campus? The KKK wore hoods. Your team wears masks and keffiyehs. Both are the same and you support hate, not free speech

If you’re a guest in this country & you break laws and harass/intimidate our Jewish citizens while agitating on behalf of a US-designated terrorist organization, you should be shown the door. You have forfeited the immense privilege. Get out. My thoughts from @FoxNewsSunday:
Nope, not at all, not being part of a terrorist group or supporting a terrorist group is a disqualifier for obtaining a visa from the State Department. He either lied or the State Department dropped the ball.
Even if, like me, you didn't like everything that transpired on January 6th, I hope you can recognize that this is a transparent assault on free speech.
