Trump is the great question mark.
Not just “is he going to run?” But if he does, he has a tendency to make those abstract things not fucking matter, so imo its hard to handicap anyone until we know whether or not Trump is the GOP nom
Donald Trump was a new york real estate tycoon who rolled over the governors of Wisconsin and Florida and a senator from Texas on his way to taking down the SoS from a popular incumbent. Not saying Newsome is a good candidate but elections aren't on paper
If he gets the nomination 3 years from now it seems like other candidates will be to blame also, if what Newsom is doing is what Dem voters want they have 3 years to adopt similar aggressive posturing and if they don’t that’s partially on them
He is a good looking white guy with a hot blonde wife and great looking kids. He also doesn’t get tongue tied and can think quick on his feet. He looks like he could be the president in an alien invasion movie. He has massive appeal.
I understand the arguments against Newsom. But I am starting to like him. Someone who goes hard at Trump without going far left on policy is what is needed. I hope better politicians copy him.

He's not going to win. One of the biggest WAR political assumptions is that no one from the San Francisco democratic machine will ever be able to win a national level primary or election at the top of the ticket.
And as has been said many times, he looks like an 80’s movie villain.

A serious question, do we really understand modern day voters anymore? Do we know if they are interested in policy or the show? Gavin can give them the show… folks say the economy/cost of things matter but Trump is lighting a torch to prices and his voters don’t seem too upset

It’s a bad idea to nominate a candidate from a deep blue state who never once in their entire career had to win the support of a single independent voter to gain office. Preaching to the choir doesn’t sharpen the political skills necessary to win the presidency.
Fox has been preemptively kneecapping him with a daily "California has Fallen" stories for 10 years which will be hard to overcome.
Think he could find middle ground if he gets a chance though
You appeal to your base first, solidify them behind you , then you go looking for swing voters.
He schmoozes well (donors) with a ton of richy rich connections. Right now he’s the only one standing up to Trump - which is inherently appealing to voters when comparing someone like him to the clips of Hakeem Jeffries exhaling. But I doubt his energy will last 3 years.
Unfortunately, "he's attractive and charismatic" is a huge factor in his odds.
I don't think he should be the nominee and honestly he can't sustain this until 2028. But he is absolutely what Dems need to get energize for the fight to take Congress and use Art 1 checks and balances that are now non existent.

He comes off as someone who is not a scripted, calculating wimp. People need to understand POTUS is mostly a personality contest. Always has been.

Could easily see him flopping in the Midwest and many swing states. His appeal seems to be concentrated in non competitive states
Newsom wants to be president so he can be president.
This is the opposite of Trump who wanted to be president to do things for his country.

Trump offers the continued defunding of Medicaid, Medicare, the VA and food assistance. All to give more tax cuts to the rich because the permanent four trillion dollar tax cut for billionaires didn't satisfy them. That bottomless greed is fed willingly by trump and the GOP.
Newsom has never fought for election outside of California before. The opportunity is there for him at the primary, as it is for other candidates. Let's get it ON ON ON

If you people rail against Gavin Newsome for fighting Hitler in 2025, it's more likely he'll be POTUS in 2028.

When, during the Primary, Newsome's failed Neoliberalism is fully explored, he'll struggle to get double digits at the polls.
