People in NYC used to say that Trump was "a poor person's idea of a rich person"--which was supposed to be a dunk and actually described his political appeal. Dems trying to tap that same populist energy instead selected a rich person's idea of a poor person.

Platner is a private school screwup, of a type familiar to people who went to private school. The fact that he was cast as a man of the people by elites, while the working class rejected him, seems kind of emblematic of the whole progressive project right now. x.com/JoshKraushaar/…

"hello fellow working classers" - Talarico with peach fuzz he took 5 days to grow and a cowboy hat that still has the tag on it
If you want a blue collar person who blue collar people would look up to, find someone who made it big in a no-college-needed business. Dems in that set are rarer than Blackwater merc dems.
this is also true of the Democrats' idea of masculine. They knew about all his toxicity and just assumed that was a package deal. We are rightly focused on how he treats women, but it is also insulting that they thought they had to make a deal with the devil to appeal to men.
Eh, he's very much a type of Mainer from a rich family who fits into Maine working class culture. But I think he's def a rich person's idea of a working class person, not necessarily a poor person. Fishermen in Maine can make lots of money!
they screwed up in Texas too with Talarico. Coastal elites with their mal-aligned social filters imagining what Texans want in a senator have no clue, but Talarico looked okay to them and threw their money behind the guy that wants to trans children and give them abortions.
The media could not be played.
I’ve seen this. Bernie often promotes people “in touch with working people” but I see “Ivy League pretender”. Just today he promoted a high achieving doctor (though this guy may be close to workers…I don’t know him)

We need leaders in Congress who understand firsthand the struggles facing working families and are ready to fight for unions, affordable housing, Medicare for All, and an economy that works for everyone, not just the 1%. Let's send @AbdulElSayed to the Senate. x.com/AbdulElSayed/s…
private school screwups are actually pretty credible populists. the guy's obviously a dick, but the whole "going to Hotchkiss is disqualifying" is an even dumber form of populism
Kat Rosenfield brilliantly described the mentality as “he has a beard, he likes domestic violence, that’s not what we sophisticated people do, but let’s keep it going…”
I think it was "poor person's ideal of a rich person's life". And Beto O'Rourke was the rich person's ideal of a poor person's life (even though Beto is married to a billionaire's daughter)
It always seems like Democrats are insulting your typical average American. Platner, Walz, who's next? Sometimes I think Democrats don't know any average Americans.
Democrats are stumbling over themselves to be as anti Trump as possible, but along the way they have only become as much like Trump than not.
Democrats can’t win on policy because most people reject Democrat race/gender ideology. Democrats could always kick out the race/gender ideologues …
Trump’s over‑the‑top fixation on gauche gold décor and baubles does perfectly represent a poor man’s idea of a rich man.
Democrats are going to have to run someone with a top hat and a monocle. Or maybe a billionaire rapper with a gold chain and a felony record, if they can find one with a record longer than Trumps.
Sure, because they can't stand actual working class people; plumbers, nurses, general contractors. They are all Hillary's deplorables.

Platner is a limousine liberal's idea of what working class males are like. x.com/rkylesmith/sta…
A lot of the farms in the Central Valley are own by Whites that are great grandkids of the Okie group that left Oklahoma years ago and even if they didn't go to Agricultural College that make pretty good money owning farms.
Actually, a lot more people went to private school in Newport Beach than Platner friends in Maine. Newport Beach went `10 percent for Trump and has recently sold a house for 70 million.
Trump is a middle-class idea of wealth not poor people. In fact Trump did the best in the central valley among middle class farmers not poor people that tend to be Latino there.

Trump is a journalist's idea of poor person's idea of a rich man. Platner is a journalist's idea of a rich person's idea of a poor person.

Books will be written on this sad chapter of American history one day. Still the fact remains he’s a symptom of something quite sick and rotting in the body politic of the US. x.com/atrupar/status…
