i fear it will fall victim to the same "planes are more dangerous than cars" logic
yes, the data says robot cars are overwhelmingly safer but the idea of 1 robot crashing your car and killing you over-rides all rational thought
There is a future where bad drivers will not be able to afford to insure without a self driving system.
kinda wild that all the "zero traffic death" people aren't pushing harder for waymos ubiquitously in cities
As a commuter, Waymos are very pleasant and predictable to share the road with.
this is about where humans would be if they didn't drive drunk, reckless, or distracted. But since they will...
If this is compared to the overall car use, then it is misleading. It should be compared to for hire rides.
Self driving cars will be one of the greatest boons to public health in decades.
Those 15 minute cities will show even better. Just lock everyone up in their little peleton equipped cell and we'll all be "safe".
Ehhh…they control for “road type” so we do not have evidence about Waymo’s performance on roads as a 1:1 comparison, especially in high accident areas. That would be more valuable information

Wrong. We control for road types.
Are these stats "risk adjusted"? I.e., accounting for differences in where waymo vehicles versus the general pop. are actually driving? In my field of healthcare quality measurement, this would be a good example of an apples to oranges comparison where you would need to do that.
The first urban core that does "robot drivers only" and has near 0 deaths that year will spark a revolution
The honest answer is that it's truly hard to do this analysis without fully scaling out, because the two datasets come from different distributions.
That said, using the ol' eyeball test, they definitely seem safer, simply because the cautiousness is turned way up.
Therefor it is unlikely to have a full robust rollout. We don’t get to have nice things.
In my lazy estimation this market is $1T and will support a market cap of $10T at a 10x rev multiple. There's still time to buy more GOOG or TSLA as they inch closer to duopolizing it.
I am saddened to record this. I am a better man for having known my friend , just as this country is better for his work. Charlie had a curious mind and wanted to improve it. He sought to know the basic things of this Earth and how they reach to Heaven, where he

Sorry but I'm going to have to insist that it's banned based on this undesirable second order effect.
Once again, Tesla claiming that they’re gonna win 99% of market share in this space is laughable!
The cyclists continue to make themselves a problem lol
