I understand why such people are rare (across the ideological spectrum, not merely here)...but man it would be great for society if we could convince more people to take this approach earnestly. Really illuminating.
Emblematic of recent 'political' movements, which are thinly and poorly veiled therapy.

What we're seeing unfold is less of a political movement than a mental health crisis.
Almost every ideology is a psychological coping mechanism We must cleanse ourselves of ideology in order to truly pursue efficacy "It doesn't matter if a cat is black or white, as long as it catches mice"
Yes, the first time everyone hears neoliberalism they are like: “of course!” Then eventually the see how it plays out, and that the same assumptions that were so compelling are also the assumptions that are its demise. And of course, such a realization is: Marxism. So the
Wow. The entire article is a must read. I don’t think I’ve ever read a better analysis of the issues with socialism and the current “everything is oppression” fad.
little complex for me but I get the point. i also believe that hyper focused altruism is not effective.

love a good intellectual plot twist! that kind of self-discovery is what it's all about, right?
It’s sad that anyone over the age of let’s say 25 believes in “Socialism”. I would consider it a mild form of retardation tbh
He basically realized that he believed in a lie created by propaganda and his own desire to believe the world problems has an easy solution. It was his psychological coping mechanisms to his own personal issues.
I learned about incentives and how they can perverted from freaknomics and Malcom Gladwell before they both lost their battle with TDS.
I hate both socialists and effective altruists equally. flawed systems of thought trying to take the place of true kindness, grace for fellow man, and real connection to family and community
His article while thoughtful and well-written is very easy to rebut. That's because it hinges on the idea that "class-based political action is somewhere between extremely difficult and fundamentally unworkable" (it is not) and that this fact justifies inaction (it does not)
You know what, good for him. It's a sign of character to be able to admit mistakes publicly.
Honestly, it takes major balls to admit this. It should be loudly applauded! Think of the hours sunk into the research. I wish more people would be this introspective.
Marxism is not really about tangible results in the short term it’s about beating the people down long enough until they accept communism
There is a problem but it is not capitalism. The problem is the underlying system that creates the money in the money supply. This system was foisted on the people of the USA 112 years ago. A system where every dollar created has to be borrowed into existence. That's the problem.
So you're going for the most simplistic fascist talking point that anybody who wants to help other people and is against us dehumanizing others must be mentally ill in someway . Maybe if the guy used a brain cell he realize it's literally what every fascist group has done.
It is amazing, you can instantly tell the whole thing is bullshit and the person who wrote it is very dumb. You can also tell right away stupid people online will eat it up gleefully because it uses words with more than 3 syllables they sorta know and it agrees with them.
I love when a capitalist society blames socialism for its problems when no one asked about socialism. The question is why has capitalism failed us?
