Nothing wrong with running behind the top of the ticket in a safe seat on ideas you believe in (Warren is the number one example) but there’s also a cautionary tale about who you use as a model for policy direction (Warren also an important example here) for the whole party.

What policies is Ilhan known for that the D party has adopted or has campaigned on?

Yeah, I would say with how badly the economy was polling under Biden, moving away from the Warrenite direction would be wise for Democrats. No Senator was more influential in the Biden Admin domestic econ policy:
Omar underperforms more due to her rhetorical sloppyness than her policy views, i think. Progressive dems at time underperform or overperform the top of the ticket
Candidates and policies often have nothing to do with each other. Most voters don’t even believe Trump supports half the stuff he campaigns on.
