Excited to watch conservatives sleepwalk into their own version of “I’d pay more for Chipotle if the workers got paid more” and its inevitable political backlash, except dumber because bringing back 1930s trade policy won’t do anything to bring back 1930s race/gender dynamics

ppl be like “smh we traded higher GDP for losing the idyllic 1950s Americana” and then their strategy is to lower GDP via trade wars without getting back 1950s Americana smh
Yes, historically avocados were something you could only get regularly near the Mexican border in places like Cameron county. Now people in Buffalo consume it by the pound because of a thriving trade relationship with Mexico. Seems like a bad thing to torpedo in a trade war!

cool so we’re on the same page that a tariff which results in a 25% increase in avocado prices but does nothing to change undocumented immigration levels is a bad deal
Conservatives literally just want to reduce the number of immigrants to where it was at 5 years ago If you can recall, there was Chipotle 5 years ago. And it was cheaper! So pretty please, stop the hysterics

CNN: Do you worry Trump's tariffs and deportations will affect the food supply? For example, most dairy workers are undocumented. @derrickvanorden: Deporting dairy workers is our plan to stop fentanyl. I will raise the price of guacamole as much as it takes to reduce overdoses. x.com/scottlincicome…

avocado can be grown in the US. been putting together a list, so far: 1. bananas 2. coffee 3. coka 1ne 4. some wine varietals if others want to help as for "GDP" americans have a big problem understanding this doesn't equate to living standards. actually matters what's in "GDP"
There is latent desire for a recession (a recession itself not as a side effect of some other wanted thing) in pockets of both sides of the aisle. People want a reshuffling.
How deep in the sauce do you need to be to oppose deeply held convictions to own the other party ? I’m asking honestly? Ignore your belief on the follow through, you have working class people saying we should not have an abused underclass in America. That’s a win
chipotle is a bad example they already charge $2 for small scoop of guacamole Even if avacados were $2 each you would still get more than a small scoop
honestly... americans have so much stuff, and how happy are we, really? your average joe can have basically any material good he wants (housing & health insurance not necessarily included). if reversing globalism increases quality of life at the cost of material goods, a-ok
Dafuq do you know about the 1930s? That was an era of real men, and women. My grandmother, who survived them as a young adult, would've kicked your ass as a precious putz for using a limp term like "race/gender dynamics."
I am hoping this doesn’t actually happen but the irony of the 2024 election was that I think inflation (Trump contributed to significantly) was a huge reason Kamala lost and Biden had no chance. Only to vote for policies that make labor and goods more expensive.
