Nah, he's still a jackass... keeps lying about the hero and saviour of many, Spider-Man.
But after that scene, he becomes a lovable curmudgeon instead of an asshole, in my eyes and many others.
When New York flooded in the "Ultimate" Marvel Universe, Jameson saw Spider-Man saving people and realized what a fool he'd been.
Tuco fighting with his brother, lying about it to Blondie, Blondie knowing exactly why Tuco's lying, then offering him the cigar. The whole movie Blondie is basically just using him, but it's a great moment of kindness.
My favorite archetype is the bastard with honor. Very much like the big brother who will bully you, but then stick up for you when you are bullied.
In the book Voldemort asks Grindewald where the elder wand is, and G does NOT tell him. He does this to try to repent toward Dumbledore
The movie RUINS this and has G tell V that it’s with dumbledore in his tomb
In the 1994 animated series, Jonah anonymously pays Matt Murdock (Daredevil) to be Peter's lawyer when Peter's falsely accused of a crime.
This is during Graydon Creed’s presidential run, and Bastion was trying to get him to run a hit piece on mutants.
I remember that in Spectacular Spider-Man, a similar scene occurred where Rhino stormed The Daily Bugle to look for Peter.
Jameson quickly covered for him and made sure Peter got out safely.
Not sure if this fits, but Gen. Hummel in the Rock, changed sides at the last minute.
Dr. Cox spends most of the show calling JD girls' names and berating him.

Not a book or film, but Cassandra de Vries's final scene in Perfect Dark 64 made her memorable, as she sacrifices herself to distract the main villains from the hero, who asks why:
"The Skedar used me, Joanna. You are my best chance for revenge."
Boromir is one of the greatest heroes in Middle Earth, change my mind.

Yeah, and that one time when he said:
Spiderman was hero...
" ... like tears ... in rain ..."
From after Peter revealed himself as Spider-Man during the Civil War event. It was the beginning of the end of the feud between Jameson and Spider-Man. The biggest issue with the One More Day storyline was that it reset everyone's character progression in favor of the status quo.
Ensign Charly Burke (of ’s , portrayed by ) sacrificing herself to save the race of creatures she despised. They spent the entire season making us hate her, just for that big scene. Cinematically, it was beautiful and so well written.
J. Jonah Jameson is an old-school journalist who refuses to give up his sources.
Spider-Man was great. And Aunt may is praying the our father when she's kidnapped. Just a beautiful movie
This was the best JJJ in cinema, I think. I honestly think he views Spidey as a threat and he's a newsman to the core so he won't reveal his sources (or put someone else in danger).
I feel like The Hound is the only real answer. He’s not really a hero, but he steps up when he’s needed most. His only real mission in life is to kill his big brother.

J.J. always showed a lot more depth than most antagonists. He genuinely hated Spider-Man and honestly had fatherly impulses towards Peter. Odd combo, that's when they wrote them well!
The lake ghost episode in first season of Supernatural where the grandpa begs forgiveness and offers to take his grandson's place.
Was he being a hero or was he being g greedy and protecting his only source for Spiderman pics?
Everyone wants a personal brand
Everyone makes the same 5 mistakes
I recorded a 9-minute video that:
1. Tells you the mistakes
2. Tells you the consequences
3. Tells you the remedies
4. Tells you the results
Comment “5” and I’ll DM it to you so you don't fail
the thing is he isn't doing this for spiderman, nor is he trying to protect spiderman, hes trying to protect the photographer, who, while he doesn't know or realize it, is spiderman.
He’s not doing it for Spider-Man. He doesn’t want to let someone else get the only source of Spider-Man pics
It did make him more likeable but I always felt he was just protecting his investment in Peter, not Peter himself
In the comics Jameson and Pete have an....interesting dynamic (depending on the writing team). I think here though Raimi was just making a joke about journalistic integrity (protecting their sources) which only landed so well because it's well established JJJ has no integrity lol
Javert takes an extreme measure due to his pride, but Valjean is finally at peace.

Journalists protect their sources.
I miss old school journalism and real news...
I always loved that scene.
I also loved the Vulture defending him at the end of the Homecoming movie.
About the only thing disappointing about the early issues of Amazing Spider-Man is that JJ Jamison is exactly the kind of dick that he appears to be. He hates Spider-Man because his heroism makes JJ feel small by comparison.
Jamison even financed a killer robot and the
Jameson did his best to make sure that Spiderman wasn't in it for the wrong reasons.
If he was universally loved, it could be a motivating factor, but if faced hardship for his vigilantism & still continued then he was an true selfless hero.
Pierce Hawthorne and Chevy Chase by extension.

Mistreated and mocked by the school and clique, saves it from ruin by getting Jeff to remember what made it special.

Mistreated, abused, gaslit and impugned by the cast, fans and
In the animated series where peter quit the daily bugle and worked for fisk. And then peter gets accused of treason, who footed the bill to hire matt murdock to defend peter?
In the cartoon, Jameson secretly paid for Parker’s defense when he was framed by Kingpin.
Jonah Jameson is an asshole, but he an asshole that cares about the city and it's people. He sees Spiderman as an unchecked vigilante, one that may inspire masked villains. As far as he's concerned he prefers a normal life not surrounded by masked men. But that's my take on him.
captain jellico TNG, comes off as jackass but actually has method and reason. Not sure if it’s a 1:1 with what you’re looking for

Jonah is an asshole.
But Jonah is principled, and he protects his reporters.
Plus, I think he secretly really likes Peter, and wants him to be hard enough to survive New York.
JJ's only "crime" is that he doesn't like vigilantes. That's why he's against Spiderman. But he's still a really good newspaper reporter.
He may not be good, but For the most part, he’s not evil just hates Spider-Man
Straight out of the comics
He could be a real asshole
but he had integrity as a newsman
He hated Spider-Man but really cared about Peter, despite being abrasive towards him. Jonah lets his hatred of Spider-Man go when he reveals his identity to him.
J Jonah Jameson was born to be a hater
... but not a true asshole. A good journalist always protects his sources.
Peter Wiggin. He was portrayed as a sadistic child for his psychological abuse to his younger brother, animal abuse, and his selfish ambitions. As an adult, he manipulated the Earth into a stable and peaceful political alignment.
I think he did that because HE wants to be the one to take down Spiderman.
You could argue that he was lying not cuz he cares about Peter but because he doesn’t want to lose his cash cow.
Throughout most of Predator 1 and 2, we’re led to believe they are indiscriminate killing machines of any armed person. But at the end of 2 we see that is not the case.
In the 90's animated series peter quits being a bugle photographer after he's hired by fisk, and subsequently framed. Jonah secretly covers all of peters legal expenses believing him to be innocent, then takes him back on at the bugle at his former salary.
Jaws in James Bond.
By the way the only « villain » that James Bond never clearly defeated in one-to-one fight (all encounters ended by fighters being separated one way or another)
In the end, he finds love and sacrify himself by saving JB.

This is one of my favorite character tropes: "The guy you think is a scumbag, but turns out to have unshakeable morals and does the right thing when the chips are down."
Here's another obvious example:
Imperius in Ladyhawke. We learn it was his drunken confession that led the evil bishop to learn of Navarre and Isabeau’s relationship; he redeems himself by providing the prophecy that brings about the undoing of the curse, among other things.
It’s because he was never a bad guy
He just believed that good guys didn’t wear masks. Which was a belief vindicated in this scene by being mugged by a guy in a mask
In the comics, Aunt May always told Peter that she disliked Spider-man because she felt what he did was dangerous. When she was dying, she told him that she'd known he was Spider-man for years and that he was "as good a man as your Uncle Ben."
Crocodile coming in clutch in Marineford. He saved Luffy, the man who crushed his ambitions earlier in the series, just because he'd rather see Luffy live than see the Marines declare absolute victory.

It’s not a comic, but in The Wire there’s a scene where Sgt Rawls, who hates Det McNulty, shows up at the hospital and gives McNulty a pep talk about why he shouldn’t blame himself for a fellow officer getting shot. Putting aside differences for human decency.
My favorite status quo change in the comic books is JJ now being in the inner circle of people who know Peter is Spider-Man, and him becoming his biggest advocate.
If they ever take that away from me istg Spider-Man will be dead to me. It’s my favorite friendship in comic books.
Funny thing is if Osborne just took a second to think, he would've known to just pick up a newspaper & see that Pete's name would be there as the photographer

Preble Jefferson can see 5 seconds into the future. When government agencies become aware of his skill, he'll do whatever it takes to protect his family.
“Calling this a thriller is a bit reductive...The most interesting novel I’ve read in a long time.” --JDC
Magneto, being sort of an anti-villain, gets a lot of them, but one of my favorites is in X-Men: The Last Stand when one of the bad guy mutants starts badmouthing Xavier and Magneto chastises him, saying “Charles Xavier did more for mutantkind than you’ll ever know.”
There's a similar moment in Spectacular Spider-Man, except with the Rhino instead of the Green Goblin.
Theon Greyjoy was killed as a good man, trying to save Bran from the Night king
This scene from the Ultimatum event in the Ultimate Comics where J Jonah Jameson completely turns around on Spider-Man. So much so that years later he goes down shooting Ultimate Green Goblin in order protect Spider-Man.
On the raimi trilogy, JJJ was pretty nice with peter tbh, like when he makes him freelancer, he explains to Pete the minimum fee for it while also taking in account his student position, hence why he even says "for a student like you, this is the best deal", called back later on-
Here's him speaking out against racism and bigotry:
It’s further exemplary because Peter Parker had literally been in his office thirty seconds previously, dropping off pictures of Spider-Man. JJJ knew Parker was still in the other room but he still lied.
This thread of JJJ being a stand-up guy in the comics (Spider-Man notwithstanding of course).

Perfect time to remind everyone that J. Jonah Jameson has consistently been shown to be a staunch supporter of mutant rights and that he's refused to print any material that could support racism against mutants. So if he believed Spidey was one, he'd probably back down. x.com/GailSimone/sta…
In the final scene of “Nashville” (1975) you see characters who were jerks reacting to the event very honorably
Kind of a way out there example but the one dude standing up for the guys on the frontline while Hitler is sperging out in the bunker in Downfall always stood out to me
same character but in the comics.
one of my favorite comic panels ever
He knows Peter's a good kid, as hard as he is on him. He finds out Peter's Spiderman at one point in the comic and doesn't try to rat him out or turn on him.
I don't know that "everything" is redeemed. But by having the character to keep his sources confident, he reveals some sort of ethical character that at least makes him redeemable and more easy to forgive.
Code Geass had one such scene with Rolo that really manages to fuck you over
Dandadan ep7 has a bit of a climactic redemption scene that was so good it made me cry for an hour
not willing to post spoilers for either but happy to share them in the DMs
On a rewatch, I noticed that JJJ & Robbie immediately notice the photos could ONLY have been taken by Spider Man, & is intentionally messing with him throughout the scene.
The way he shoots down his wife's purchase makes me think he's paying Peter out of his own pocket, as well.
In the books he yelled at Harry every time they talked but he spent his last moments not giving up where Harry is
