I think this is true. It was a tough decision and the need to see more fight from our leaders is very real. But one big argument against a shutdown was that Dems should keep letting Trump own all the bad news, and deny him the ability to muddy the picture. Imo that’s proving out.

I didn’t like it at the time but Chuck Schumer’s decision to duck a confrontation over the continuing resolution is looking better after the last week. The near invisibility of democrats in recent weeks means there will be no doubt who owns the economic crisis that’s coming.

As Trump’s numbers continue to decline because he alone owns the stuff people don’t like, this will go down as a tough but smart choice - and as a wake-up call that Dems need an aggressive strategy for the fights ahead, like debt ceiling and the next shutdown fight in September. x.com/Bencjacobs/sta…
There’s a misconception about who makes up the Dem base. The base is normies not the far left. They are calling for more fight from our leaders and they are right - eyes fwd. But the rallies this weekend suggest the base is passionately engaged, shutdown outcome notwithstanding.

huge mistake by Schumer, it would have drawn a line, and contributed to the sense of "out of control" and Trump chaos. One of the added benefits of "doing nothing" in addition to thinking one can't be blamed, is you can claim you did nothing and it worked out well.
The problem was that he switched up 24 hours after saying he's voting no, and immediately after vulnerable house dems voted no.
We really need to push the justice dems as far out of the party as possible. They want to fight with fire (being reactionary).
trump could still have owned all of this is Schumer let the government shutdown. Couldn’t have it led the US customs to not enforce the tariffs bc They’d be furloughed. No?
oh stfu this is essentially an argument saying "we got lucky because trump decided to nuke the economy" that isnt a defense.
This might help sway independents but it depresses core dem voter turnout; they get discouraged the party's doing nothing.
The problem is Schumer basically lucked into Trump deciding to go through with completely crashing the global economy, something he could not have known would happen at the time. That doesn't change the fact he's a limp dick loser that's 15 years past the expiration date.
