This is a really great article about China's shitty economic data. I recommend the whole thing.
Here are some key paragraphs.

Good FT piece on the increasing difficulty economists have in understanding, correlating and reconciling Chinese economic statistics. This leads to concerns among many analysts that GDP may be overstated, and fairly substantially.

I still canβt shake the feeling that their GDP is being underreported. Iβm sure some of their numbers arenβt accurate, but I think the west is also failing to get how their economic system works
Iβm sure economy of non-megacity area is cooked. And unemployment rate high based on whay my Chinese friend recently told me. However, data released by PRC showed low unemployment rate lmao. Some argue that unemployed people who work as didi driver or dasher werenβt count. Dumb.
Americans are piss-scared of China and don't like to confront it's rise because it holds the mirror up to their own failings. That's undeniable and asking an econ professor from Chicago what he thinks says nothing about the state of China's actual economy.

You people are absolutely right about China's fake high GDP!
Why you & Americans etc so scare of China & US need to remove all tariffs on China since Apr 2025?
