As I said earlier, there is no question the president has the authority to remove generals and admirals. But sincerely ... *why* did Trump do it? When MacArthur and McCrystal were fired, there were clear public explanations. Did Gen Brown do something wrong?

Truman fired McArthur. Obama fired McCrystal. Civilian control of the military is “banana republic” according to this very thoughtful congressman. x.com/sethmoulton/st…

To be even more clear, the president is under no legal or constitutional obligation to have reasons for his decisions. Maybe Admiral Franchetti did nothing wrong and Trump fired her for absolutely no reason other than whim. But is that a good way to do the job?
I don't really cover the military and don't know anything about General Brown or Admiral Franchetti or the JAGs who got fired. If has some good reasons to offer, I am open-minded and would be happy to try to persuade people that Trump got it right. But does he?
This? - Diversity and Equity Initiatives: Brown supported race-conscious hiring and promotions in the Air Force to ensure diverse leadership. He emphasized the need for inclusivity, including changes to Air Force mottos and symbols, and questioned whether non-white personnel

I'm not asking for you or anyone else to speculate what Trump's reasons are, I'm asking the President or his team to give us some official reasons that the rest of us can then try to evaluate.
Something changed with Trump in the last few years. He’s obsessed with DEI. Trump actually promoted him to service chief.

Honestly, "this person is qualified enough and has more of my trust" is a common and not unreasonable approach in business & pretty much anywhere and usually the implicit reason. "But this other person is more qualified even though you trust them less" is not a great counter.
Pruning the disloyal. Making sure that his orders are followed regardless of any ethical or judicial obstacles.
"Why did this happen" Everyone: here is a bunch of evidence and reasons Matt: we will never know, Trumps just a dictator!

Hey black liberals, I know you're just as slow as your white counterparts, but President Trump didn't fire General CQ Brown because he's black. He fired him because he's woke & dumb. Exhibit A: 👇 Gen. Brown made a video pandering to the woke mob during the George Floyd riots.

I think the issue was his aggressively promoting DEI personnel policy. Keeping him would have impugned the credibility of the entire effort to rid the federal government of DEI.
Isn't Trump entitled to a Joint Chiefs Chair who is fully aligned with his Administration's priorities? Why do you assume a bad motive every time Trump does something?
When a company brings in a new CEO, it is common for that CEO to replace certain existing executives with leaders they have worked with or who will be able to execute the new vision better. It doesn't mean the existing executives were bad, they just weren't the best option.
General Brown was telegraphed BEFORE the election. Some people have a bit of a bee in a bonnet about some things, if they're not ONE HUNDRED PER CENT WRONG, just more wrong than not.
Do ppl still not realise we're moving to authoritarianism? You might think that's good or bad. I happen to think it's necessary to beat China. But obviously that's what is happening.
Gen Brown is a strong advocate for Affirmative Action, DEI, and ESG. Issued several orders to implement all social programs.
Maybe bad at building ships?

“China has been investing so much in shipbuilding over the past 18 years that it can now build more ships in a month than the United States can in a year.” Meanwhile, the US Navy wasted $1.84 billion on a botched Ticonderoga-class cruiser refit.

Every president fires military leadership over policy disagreements. Why the FUCK should the Commander in Chief not have leaders under him who are aligned with his vision for the military? Can you answer that??

I don’t understand why anyone finds it so hard to comprehend why you want your own team in your own administration.
Risk the fighting quality of the US forces to pursue DEI quotas... Come on Matt, you're not stupid. You know EXACTLY what happened...

Probably because he's a race communist

He did Matt. He was being, and planned to continue being, insubordinate and subversive to the commander-in-chief. The DEI nonsense and fuckery is over. Communism 1917-2025 is over. You should reflect, repent, and lay low. It’s over and the people don’t appreciate what you tried.
Because he wanted to he doesn't need a reason other than that. He decided that the current leadership was not in like with his policies and priorities.

This is why General Brown was replaced: The President and the American people have made it clear that our institutions must be color-blind and merit-based, focusing exclusively on their missions rather than on secondary social justice objectives, which only serve to weaken us.

The general went woke, and as we all know now, woke debilitates any organization it infects. It is like a religious cult or akin to flat Earthers and young Earth creationists. It is fantasy, not based in reality. It is also racist and misogynistic.

Tell us what metric you use to show how good the military was doing under Biden and Brown. Morale- low Recruiting- unsat Readiness- unsat But please keep doing the same thing.
So if he hires a black guy, it’s because he deserved it through merit, but if he fires a black guy, it’s because of racism. Right?
General Brown is a big supporter of DEI initiatives and that’s not compatible with Trump‘s and Hegseth’s vision for a meritocracy. You need to have someone in this position that is 100% aligned.
There is a civil war within the US. Brown is on the other side. Clear as day. Cannot be trusted.
Because they were assholes that colluded with the biggest asshole of them all to commit treason during Trump’s first term. We’re still finding out which ones disregarded the president’s direct order to leave Syria, but when we do, they won’t just be fired, they’ll be

To place leaders in office more capable and willing to enact his agenda. This is so blindingly obvious I don't know why the question is even being asked!
Yes, be a "DEI general". Same as the Navy chief. They'll make this more explicit, just a matter of time.
I’ve decided I don’t really care about which people hold these roles. I suspect the majority of the country doesn’t either. Dems need to be smart about picking battles to get outraged over
Have you never managed people? Every manager is entitled to surround themselves with people of their own choosing, people who are loyal and support your agenda and beliefs.
Trump supporters too quickly fall back on the "he has the power to do it argument," but not every use of power is good. He has the power to nuke London, I'd prefer if he didn't. We give the pres. a lot of power. He's supposed to use it well, to faithfully uphold the law.
MacArthur sure could clash with Presidents. Although he followed President Hoover’s orders. Some of the Bonus Army weee probably served under him in WWI.
My question is this…ok he fires Brown. But could they not have found someone more qualified to replace him?? He’s literally the most unqualified Joint Chiefs we have ever had! So what is the reasoning behind the hire?
You already know the answer. Stop pretending you need an explanation for them doing what they said they would do.
Gen Brown is a good man and a fair and strong leader. ADM Franchetti is a fighter, a warrior in every sense of the word. Trump has fired 2 women service chiefs and a black CJCS. Do you really need any other information?
Hegseth went after Brown by name in his book. This is about post-George Floyd policies and statements. Brown is not the only one.
They believed in DEl. We are DONE with that Matt. They were fired for the same reason you would want a segregationist fired if they were on the joint cheifs. We. are. done. with. descrimination. against. white. males.
The F35 has a life cycle cost of $100 million. The Air Force bought 1000. Only 3 in 10 are mission capable at any one time ever. General Brown wanted to buy 1500 more.
Because they were inflicted with the woke mind virus, which was destroying the lethal potential of our military force. Hope that helps.
We all know what the deal is. General Brown was a "DEI general," with the hard-R audible under the whistle, and needed to be replaced by a mediocre white man to restore the order of the universe. Admiral Franchetti is a woman and we know Trump's attitudes about them.
The military is part of the Executive Branch the President can remove executive branch officials without reason in the absence of specific legislation to the contrary. This is because the President's removal power is considered part of their executive power
