Clarification: I should have said that all these cars put together are likely carrying fewer people than a fully loaded BART train. I regret the error.
There are about 650 cars in the picture with the average capacity of 4 people ~ 2560 people capacity. The largest bart car has a 200 crush capacity or ~100 people normal capacity. So close, but probably false.
None of these car passengers/drivers will be stabbed, shot, assaulted, raped, or sit in human waste, either.
I share your vision for transit. We need to clean up public transit before it can be widely used. Even then, of course, it doesn't go door to door, so it's not for

The problem isn't cars.
It is zoning.
Putting homes way far away from work, shopping.
Probably because the marginal cost of driving is cheaper than transit in both money and time.
I’ve never seen this in my area, how come they don’t have a digital toll eg EZpass/TXtag etc?
this is another example of why you are always wrong to advocate for cars in a big city!
would you support more policing to make public transport safer and desirable to use
Are we doing this AGAIN?
Some of you obviously do not tie your own shoes.
Max, what is the average number of passengers on a BART car? LOOK IT UP.
You absolutely do NOT carry more people than the cars.
It's a potential capacity that you have NEVER achieved.
Why don’t you have a seat right there? x.com/badjin_rank/st

If you think people don’t drive while high on drugs, I have some news for you.
Went to brunch in the East Bay the other day. Thought to myself “I bet it’ll be faster e-bike plus BART because of afternoon Bay Bridge traffic on Sunday”. I live on the T line in SF (literally downstairs at 4th and Brannan). 42 min driving or 2 hrs by train…
I can hear the "10 car train" in the exact tone as the announcer at the stops
How is public transit in Oakland/sf these days? In Sacramento I wouldn't go within 100 yards of a light rail station, so my car it is.
But each car has *much* more independence, flexibility, and personal space than any train.
BART exists. Looks as if these folks would rather drive. Get over it.
America is sickly addicted to cars. But public transportation has to be more efficient, and safe.
A ten car train has a capacity of approx 1500. With 4 people per car, you reach that number in 375 cars. There are over 300 below the toll gantry. So no, the math doesn’t math.
None of these cars have Michael Jackson impersonators in them though.
I would rather fight you on the battlefield than share a train car with you.
I asked ChatGPT to make a poem about this:
"Bay Bridge Crawl"
The steel hums low, a beast in wait,
As twisted miles seal our fate.
No stars, no light, just endless grind,
A road that eats both flesh and mind.
The bay below, a yawning maw,
We cross, but know we’re never far.
It carries a lot of traffic but surely at this point wouldn't it make sense to start transitioning the bridge to an automated tolling system. These are all over the place in Texas and basically don't impede traffic and allow pay by mail for people without a tag.
Well Cali spent $11Bn and only built 1600 feet of high speed rail track. So it perfectly explains WHY everyone has cars instead of taking the train.
At $50,000 per EV as baseline, for $11Bn, you can buy: 220,000 families EVs. Which is about 100x the cars in that video.
Yeah, but BART for some reason, unless you get one of the new trains, smells like piss.
Other cities manage to have a train system that doesn’t smell like piss. That might be the key to adoption.
It’s also goofy that transbay buses have a minimum fare of $6
Shouldn’t we make the bus differentially cheaper than the individual auto crossing?
I love the guys in the comments like "they should implement a transponder system, that'll fix it!"
Now run a calculation on how much emissions are from each car, total that up, and compare that to the BART train. How much raw resources are required to manufacture this many cars. How much CO2 comes from having to make this much blacktop compared to just a few steel rails
The problem is BART can’t get you to San Jose, or many other places in the Bay Area. And passes are disjointed from the rest of the system.
True and as long as it lakes longer to go by train than car, people are still not going to ride the BART
Okay but being on a crammed bart train across the bridge is worse
I always avoid it at peak times
This is sunrise, not sunset.
Maybe should make it less expensive to take its train round trip than it is to cross the Bay Bridge daily. That would be a start. It’s nearly $10 daily for commuters, like myself, who BART versus $7 on Bay Bridge.
Ik I can probably spend some time looking it up, but what’s the bay bridge daily usage vs west Oakland to embarcadero daily ridership if anyone knows how to find that easily
You could fit so much useful building in that probably incredibly expensive chunk of real estate. Jesus.
Perhaps true, but the chances of someone wanting to show off their colostomy bag is also greatly reduced.
Scientists have captured Earth’s climate over the last 485 million years. Here’s the surprising place we stand now.
All of those people will likely reach their destination far quicker than if they took that train.
That’s simply not true, because the BART train goes to a handful of places, and all of those cars are potentially on their way to anywhere in North America. It’s laughably far from being a one-for-one replacement.
So what is happening here? Is that meter off of a toll!? I feel like there’s better implementations of ramp meters that don’t concentrate all the emissions of idling engines in one toll plaza for workers to breath in
The awful farting music really goes well with it because this is straight doo doo
and somehow they aren't making enough money to maintain the bridge all of a sudden
i love how the only capital efficiently moving here is oil capital, not human capital, not intellect capital
What do they do when they get off the said train
It's easy to say things like that, but the problem is bigger than trains vs cars
Ah, the price of not having to be around other people...
Good point. If you live in or work in a big city- you should be willing to give up your car.
The main problem with something like BART is it doesn’t take you to the office or home
So ask yourself, with BART available and running a paralleling route, what's going on?
Chicago's Northwest Expressway, has L in the median and along side, trains pass the traffic jams. Same question.
But none of the are forced to go to the same places…?
Lol. Try riding those trains over time and maintaining your peace.
The people in these cars are clean safe reliable
Can you guarantee such for BART
Make BART safe and clean and you will see ridership soar. The current hands off approach to parking lot theft and on train theft pushes people away.
that’s more than 1000 people and more than a 10 car BART train holds.
i almost always like your tweets, but ridiculous exaggeration is wrong if presented as empirical observation.
All of these drivers rejected public transportation for one reason or another, and are only in congestion because of a goddamn toll
and 1 train cant get everyone to home.
One ten car BART train has more criminals and incomprehensible incompatibility
None of the people sitting in those cars will be crime victims on the BART where the perp has no punishment
Yeah maybe defunding the police wasn’t good policy but urbanists can’t admit that
You sound like someone who's never actually been on a BART train.
'Every one of those cars" doesn't have a screaming drug addict defecating in front of you
Yes. Ride public transportation.
. Don’t sit there. Some homeless man just pissed and pooped. Don’t sit there, there’s a heroin needle on the chair. Oh. You want to sit down, well someone lives on that seat. You liberals are clueless.
