Perhaps unnoticed in the Trump storm, the U.S. Japan joint statement quietly introduced new language on the Taiwan Strait.
For first time, Washington and Tokyo oppose "any attempts to unilaterally change the status quo by force or coercion."

2/ Coercion
said the inclusion of "coercion" was notable, because it could include economic measures, such as embargoes and cyber attacks, that fall short of military action.
3/ Until now, Japan had talked about China’s attempts to change the status quo by force in the South China Sea and the East China Sea. This time, they talked about the Taiwan Strait.
That language was used in the Jan. 21, 2025 Quad foreign ministers statement.
.: “Why is [rampant immigration] happening? [It's] the host [country] & it's on both sides. If says… they want to bring in new constituencies for agendas that don't appeal to Americans in sufficient #'s for them to retain power, they call him a racist…”

It clarifies the arrangement but the post WWII peace treaty between the US and Japan and Japan’s recent defense arrangement with Taiwan meant Taiwan was already backed by Japan and the US.
Oppose is one thing but who is going to enforce it? Japan? The US? Talk is cheap.
Interesting change in language. This would enable Japanese response to the most likely scenario of Chinese escalation; being the maritime blockade of Taiwan.
This is a good sign and a positive move. Taiwan is vital to the world economy. We cannot let it fall into the hands of the CCP

Victor Hanson: Mass Immigration and the Clash of Cultures
Very powerful statement. Increasing oil and gas production in Alaska would fit right in with exporting more to Japan to offset import trade into the US.
thank you for this important update, missed in the fog of the empires wars
How much do these words mean? Does Tokyo even have military resources to assist US in defending Taiwan?
Young Japanese are not joining JSDF. It is insufficiently funded by the government.
Seoul will be no help & I'm doubtful about Tokyo.
Thank you, President Trump. This mission is a vital message at the start of the term. Deterrence.
Is America completely bifurcated, or is there a silent majority tired and disoriented by the political chaos?
T&Q's and discuss in "Outrage and Empathy."
Neither the US nor Japan – both of which China has defeated in battle – has the means to intervene in China's internal affairs. They're just posturing.
More robust language on our part leaves less weasel room on China's part.
So if Taiwan declares independence or the U.S. declares its support for Taiwan independence, it is a not change of the status quo by force, but it definitely is a major escalation towards military conflict, possibly major destruction of all those involved
What it means is the US forcibly coerced Japan into making this joint statement because the US is being an ass as usual lol.
Ultimately,
can’t stop
reunification. Adding Little Japan to the mix ain’t gonna do jack shit.
Opposing is good, but they need to state what they will do about it if somebody tries it.
thanx for this so i might mean this is a reflection of trumps administration policy on TW then...quite uplifting...
So this standard will also apply to Panama, Greenland, Canada and Gaza, I assume.

The Taiwan Strait will become a tomb for countless Chinese vessels if they try an assault.
CCP knows it.
US and others rating the odds of blockade or similar, a little higher.
Many nations will break any such attempt at a blockade.
Taiwan declaring independence would absolutely be a change in the status quo. But the US and Japan aren't announcing their opposition to that. De-escalation and peace are not what the US and its vassal want.
But it's always been the US side that has tried to change the status quo through various means.
Wow. This is wonderful news. Should have already happened. This coupled with saving the Nippon steal merger - we must keep Japan as our mightiest ally.
so THERE IT IS:) I suspect China already knows:) Japan is a stupid vassal of US Evil Empire.
Japan military missed its recruitment goal by 50% last year. Action is hard. Talk is easy.
Japan has been very carefully on Taiwan issue and they should be, china is looking for excuse to take revenge they never forgive or forget.
Will you take just two minutes to stand with Dr. Ben Carson by signing the National Statement against Cancel Culture?
You can be part of a better path forward for America – one that bridges our differences and finds common ground to solve the problems we face as a nation.
So they don't want anyone else to do what amerika does to EVERY country including genocide and wars
The Senkaku islands will now fall under Article 5 of the US Japan Security Treaty.

Don't have a too elevated view about these BS statements.
Taiwan is a province of China, and China can deal with the Taiwan issue anyway it believes to be appropriate. US/Japan can make "statements" all they want, but who cares. This is a Chinese internal affair.
Like the plot to a dystopian movie, New York will now monitor social media writings, collect data, and use law enforcement to crack down on any expression it deems to be hate speech.

Did Trump himself sign this document along with the Japanese prime minister?
A very rapid fall from the WORLD STAGE by the American

Trump wants to be the one make demands on Taiwan, not that foreign country China.
Well..you’ll be surprised that china will go anywhere to unify Taiwan. So it does nothing more than making Taiwan feel good.

This is great. It can kill the US and Japan at one time. We should know that it is the Communist Party that loves peace, not the Chinese people. The Communist Party has been suppressing the people's desire for expansion in the world's first industrial country.
Who care ! Japanese must remember that Chinese are having strong desire to revenge!
The status of Taiwan is NOT your call,
never ever. No one can stop its peaceful return to home
meanwhile usa is coerce Denmark &Palestine&Panama to give their land to usa(to Trump specifically) lol
Nobody cares what cuckpan says. They are slaves to the violent US empire. They have no voice of their own! Any statement made by Tokyo comes straight from Washington! I'm surprised japs can say anything at all when their mouths are always stuffed full of murican D!
Americans will not die for Taiwan. Its not because thry care about democracy or the Chinese descendants on the island. They judt want the chips. Once TSMC sets up shop and starts producing in the US, Taiwan will be traded with China for something else. Watch my words.
The Japanese have no choice but to remain a vassal to the US, so that the US industrial base can sell its expensive, outdated weapons on a large scale. Neither Trump nor Rubio cares about the average Japanese citizen or their fragile economy.
When was the last time CCP attacked any country? They have no guts to do shit against Taiwan! The PLA will revolt against CCP before any attack happens.
What hypocrisy and arrogance, trump unilaterally changed the gulf of Mexico to the gulf of America.
This is how dirty money works!
How much do people get paid for their dirty deeds?

soo Chinese economic pressure is "coercive" but American sale of weapons to Taiwan isn't changing the status quo?
