Only one in 10 respondents tells Pew they have made *any* online sports bets in the last year. 43% say widespread online sports betting is bad for society, only 7% say a good thing. And thereโ€™s not that much of an age gradient.
Two bar charts displaying U.S. adult opinions on the impact of sports betting legality. The first chart, labeled "For society," shows 43% view it as a bad thing, 7% as a good thing, and 50% as neither good nor bad, with data from July 25 and July 22. The second chart, labeled "For sports," shows 40% view it as bad, 17% as good, and 42% as neither, also comparing July 25 and July 22. A table lists demographic breakdowns, including men, women, age groups, race, education, income, and political affiliation, showing percentages who view sports betting as bad for society, with data from July 22 and July 25. Text overlays include "Growing shares of Americans view legal sports betting as bad for society/sports" and "PEW RESEARCH CENTER" with a chart and data share label.

Online sports betting is less widespread than smoking, and politicians donโ€™t get in trouble for being against smoking
Men also interestingly a little more likely than women to say online sports betting is bad for society. Maybe they see more ads for it?
I really enjoy sports betting but I think that online sports betting has many potential problems. Tho based on my son and his friends, young men are gambling on sports at an alarming rate, whomever goes against it would lose them.
And some of those people who make online sports bets, like me, wouldnโ€™t be upset if you had to go to a physical location to make bets
The problem is that you're not always rewarded for doing popular stuff because of differences in priorities. Voters who dislike it won't reward banning or regulating it, voters who do will flip out
What's with this surge of talk about sports betting? You guys went all in on the Rams covering the spread?
Salience though. Iโ€™m not crazy about sports betting, but itโ€™s not really something that would make me change my mind on voting for someone. The guys that do sports bet absolutely would
