the next time you hear someone say “congestion pricing hurts the poor” just show them this data
only 2% of low-income outer-borough residents drive into Manhattan. 61% take transit. congestion pricing is one of the most progressive policies out there.

And it goes right back into funding to improve public transit
Panama’s plans to permanently return traffic levels through the Darien Gap to pre-Biden levels depend greatly on U.S. funding for sufficient numbers of expulsion flights to have deterrent effect.
The American Community Survey is such a useful resource for a variety of reasons.
The congestion tax affects the overall economy in Manhattan.
A NJ contractor for Anderson Windows does installs in the city. They’ll likely add on $20 to those jobs now. WHY NOT charge Anderson for the 2 trucks he operates when they may only take one?

Low income residents aren't the ones making the city work bud. Businesses are in the city to attract top talent, which is what makes the economy work.
Not the poor, the people who are already paying ALL of the taxes. The poor pay no taxes, in fact receive more back in Federal benefits than they pay.
Money robbed from a wealthy man is still money robbed.
How do u know these numbers are real and accurate. Also do u think it’s ok that the subway is so unsafe that the people using them should be subjected to that. Who pays ur salary
Well as long as we are stealing other people’s money who cares, right!!
Here’s a rundown of Trump’s health policy stances and his potential top priorities in a second administration.
Congestion pricing is all about more Government control.....force people to use public transit....which is government run, government decides when, where, what route you can use....thus removing all you freedoms.
Screw those 2% and the 17%. Happy to sacrifice them for the greater good.
Umm what is your definition of poor here? People who don’t work or live of assistance wouldn’t drive a car anyway. The true middle class and poor who work and rely on their vehicles to get to work are absolutely hurt by this
None of these points you make say anything but " freedom is an illusion " taxing the movement of anyone is beyond the pale.
Sam , regardless of your data and numbers , nobody wanted this
. Are yall not listening?
Most autistic transit whackos like yourself love data.
The problem with most data though, is that it can be manipulated to show your desired outcome.
Thanks for gleefully cheering while this policy hurts the city and its people.

Sam. Next week I’ll post data showing the demographics of visitors to the #congestionpricing zone this week compared to last based on mobile location data and home origin census demos. Standby…
Love this graph. Used it in my piece when I wrote about congestion pricing.
Adding massive daily taxes isnt going to make life less expensive for NYC residents... That's for sure
That may be correct, but politicians should (and never do) consider higher order impacts. If we do this, then what happens? If it reduces people coming in from NJ and spending money here, then it could be a net loss. Also, it’s just more tax. They take and take and take in NY.
What about the extra costs of goods and services due to that being passed on to the consumer?
how about the loss of jobs as businesses close since those with money who dont want to be set on fire on a train decide they dont want to drive into the city now? restauranteurs in new jersey will be happy

How many people is this? NYC has what 9 million. If 1/4 are poor which based on how expensive it is might be far that’s almost 2.5 million. What is 2% of that? 50,000 people who now can’t afford to go downtown and FYI this doesn’t just affect the poor. It’s the middle class
So you're telling me it's okay if it's only the middle class getting screwed over. No mention of the small businesses in lower Manhattan who are gonna be hit by the lack of business from the bridge and tunnel crowd
I love congestion pricing. I think it should cost 5 times as much. When I drive in I want all the poor people off my roads. They can get on the subway to get screamed at by the mentally ill.
Governments shouldn’t force behavior like this bc they never stop and will keep infringing. The government is hurting people don’t care about income and forcing behavior. I don’t like or trust them to do anything right
Like most policies, this impacts the middle class the most, but who gives a f*ck about those guys, am I right? Not poor enough or wealthy enough to actually matter

Or, it’s an Overton Window shift that creates a class of uber-elites (pardon the pun).
There is now a new class of ‘too poor to have a daily car’.
But Sam understands this but likes those “Eyes Wide Shut” parties.
It literally says microdata sample - not macro data which would be reflective of a broader population. Way to be deceptive
Of that 2%, many maybe driving to work in upper Manhattan not covered by congestion fee.
Point if information: this chart states "in poverty". I'm not seeing what definition of that phrase the chart makers are using. However "Low income" is generally defined as up to 150% of the poverty line
Since 61 % take public transit they should charge subway riders the same fee they charge car drivers so they can make maximum profit they get cleaner air and more money to waste!
Progressivism = funneling money to your friends & destroying the best places in America
So this is evidence it's to tax the rich. They moved out and don't pay that tax so we'll get them when they come to work. So sad

That says how they get to work. There are lots of other reason why one enters Manhattan.
Bottom line your restricting transport options for people that can’t afford it.. no asked you to force them how to get to work.. creating express lanes for the rich
Sales tax, the Lottery, and property tax to some degree are all tax dodges by wealthy to avoid paying their fair share through wealth and progressive income tax. They are incredibly good at hoarding wealth and whining when any one comes close to their pocket book.
Could have made the tax income dependent like Finlands Day Fine system. But you didn't because you wanted to make sure that most of the people pushed off the road make less than 100k.
You're an elitist class warrior, and everyone sees you.
So, just to be clear. If you only push 30k people off the roads that they paid for, that's ok?
This is blind. Plus a lie. If you want to soak the rich, $9 a day is a piss poor way to do it.
There's no possibility you aren't smart enough to understand the cost of transportation affects the prices of goods and services. So I can only conclude you are intentionally trying to mislead people.
It’s not that it hurts the poor it just helps the rich get
To work or home faster. The excess money will be pissed away by the MTA quickly. Resulting in only a benefit for the wealthy
Our mortgage payoffs are only increasing thanks to the massive support of all of you. Help us continue to honor our nation's heroes with $11/month today!
It doesn't hurt the poor because the poor there don't have cars. It hurts the working class who need cars to get around and take care of business and other responsibilities as adults.
Lol....any service the poor need that utilize the roads....they will pay the toll and pass on the charge to the poor people....
Its theft simple.. how much do they pay you to promote these kind of things to keep people poor. Or did they promised you a spot in their club?
FUCK NWO!
Dude - you are an idiot. What is considered solidly lower middle class in the American Community Survey is dirt poor when it comes to living in NYC.
Everything progressives touch turns to
. Only pasty white liberals support this.
Why don’t you include how much more we have to spend in the city we built bc you dipshits want to ride your bikes.

They may not DRIVE to Manhattan, its the ripple effect…. 1) how many drive to the subway 2) how many will get more pollution … How many work out of hours
I don’t think understand what we mean by poor. NYC seems like
and so does California. Keep your dem policies but don’t pretend you care about anyone but the rich
Low income probably should not own a car in NYC. The 2% is probably only low income on paper
Will rising gas prices lead to a coal resurgence in Europe?
Recent geopolitical tensions are pushing up gas costs, potentially making coal more competitive for power generation. This shift could increase demand for carbon permits.
#EnergyMarkets #CarbonTrading
It’s funny how you think they aren’t going to expand this to the outer boros
Consumers foot the bill when businesses raise prices to make up for the increased cost to deliver goods/services to NYC. People with less disposable income are disproportionately affected by this. So disingenuous to boil this down to “more poor people already take public transit”
Anti-working class policies show you don't care about people of color or small businesses, you just use the racism and talking-traps of the day to blame conservatives, then support the policies that are hurting the very people you say you care about!
The whole city is congested this fixes nothing! It’s diverting traffic from midtown meanwhile pollutants flow all over the place. It’s a cash grab nothing more!
Yes yes. Everyone quit driving. No more cars. Let’s the roads be free of traffic for everyone to ride their bikes and walk safely.
After Wall Street and other financial services move out of NY, enjoy the blight.
How “clever” using the 5-9 years (out)dated info for “proof of concept”. And leave out the middle class. And ignore facts (photo). So how about you learn what freakin socialism did to the people and the economies of the Soviet block?

It would be quite helpful it was possible to lay out the criminal history in a historical table, in place of brief summaries.
Row-by-row, arrest charges, verdict, sentence, and time served would be specified. Then the fundamental problem would be made clear to readers.

Who the hell are you say people are wealthy they can afford it. Let me go through your pocketbook and force you to pay what I think you should bc you’re “wealthy.” You filthy commie. This is what they did in the Soviet Union.

It only took 3 days for New York to warm up to the benefits of congestion pricing after years of being propagandized by the dumbest and/or most self-serving political influencers in the state… we need to find ways to be louder than them if we wanna get things done quicker

Here is a before and after congestion pricing on the other side of the Lincoln Tunnel taken at roughly the same time of day.
Also before you haters chime in the city is now empty, you can barely fill one subway car with all the people in private vehicles in the video.
