"The people who said they loathed high dimensional interpolations of compressed representations of images still preferred cherry-picked high dimensional interpolations to their original data points."
"People duped by counterfeit goods still don't like being duped by counterfeit goods. That's all from us here and we'll be back for the weather and news where you are at 11."
This was almost the first good counterargument. Except that counterfeit goods are near exact copies made to deceive and defraud people. Meanwhile AI art is a new medium/tool for expression.
This doesn't feel like a "gotcha" to me. People hate AI art not because it's bad, but because it's zero effort, no humanity. If it displaces human art by looking better than that, they feel mentally hijacked/deceived, it's reasonable to be upset by that.
Finding this somehow contradictory to their beliefs betrays a pretty deep misunderstanding of why people dislike generative AI art

I prefer human art and I know I wouldn’t be able to discern the difference between ai and human art in this study. The first ai art example looks like a Monet. I prefer a real Monet not a copied Monet. This study is a big so what

People generally don’t hate ai art because it’s axiomatically bad They dislike it because it inevitably over saturates every art form it touches, and because ai prompters claim to be artists
It's just like machine vs handmade lace. Always prefer the human touch. If it's indistinguishable, the value overall goes very low.
