One promising thing about nuclear as an energy source is that you can build new reactors on the spots that already have nuclear reactors and just bypass all this “nobody wants to live near anything new” stuff.

Yeah but it would be on redundant routes right? Seems easier than greenfields.
Makes sense, the NIMBY logic is basically "not near anything new" not "not near anything nuclear" so existing sites already cleared that hurdle decades ago
There used to be a minor craze for the idea of decommissioning coal plants and turning them into nuclear power plants.
Fun fact: In addition to being better with regard to toxic particulates, NPPs also emit far, far less radiation than coal plants.

Our Milky Way Galaxy alone has more than 300 billion big big nuclear reactors.
The closest big one is only 83 million miles away.

Even better, install nuclear reactors on sites that upto now burned coal (or oil) and truthfully brag you're reducing carbon emissions while recycling the capital investment in land, power lines, offices buildings...
....and with existing connectivity to the grid. And if the existing capacity is insufficient, then advanced conductor upgrades can roughly double that existing capacity.
