Wrong. It’s less that Newsom is in the pocket of lobbyists and more that California’s $300B budget is in the pocket of Silicon Valley.

Newsom vetoed because he's in the pocket of lobbyists who pressed him aggressively for a veto; he has no principles and no roadmap for artificial intelligence or anything else, and if there were a more comprehensive bill he'd veto that one too. Come on.

So after dealing with a $45B deficit earlier this year and given that California voters have been unwilling to find a more stable & predictable way to fund the government for many decades, do you think he wants to set up his successor to have lots of AI IPOs and surpluses? Yes!

And this is why the only people more desperate for IPOs of ZIRP-vintage companies than VCs is the state treasury.
SIlicon Valley *twitter* was super anti 1047 but Silicon Valley itself really wasn't! It polled extremely well including in Silicon Valley!
It is vastly underrated in the discourse the extent to which the frozen IPO pipeline is not just a tech/vc discussion but literally a Californian economy + welfare state discussion
In other words, we’ve solved the alignment problem. The politicians and the AIs are working toward the same end: producing a lot of income tax revenue for the state of California.
