And that's after the candlemakers' union was talked down from their first demand, to destroy the Sun
Why didnโt we just go back to horses instead of EVs?
Put the coach manufacturers back to work
10 years later:
Candlemaker's union disbands due to plummeting membership as candlemaking industry collapses. Blames imported lightbulbs.
If you think about it, what we really need is to blot out the sun. It gives radically unfair competition to candles at least half of the time.
it amazes me, we when people get upset about tools in their industry. especially if they go on strike, and make the employers realize that those tools can do the jobs of those people on strike.
Cars replaced horses in industry.
Whip makers and saddle shops went away, but

time for the FBI to remove some union leadership
Sure, letโs voluntarily let other countries dance circles around us.
Similar things have happened before.
It's a miracle that this country thrives in spite of the lack of an actual free market.
Forgive me for not living anywhere near a port, but I'm wondering what necessary work longshoremen still perform. Since the grunt work has largely been eliminated, I'm wondering why the work that remains does not command higher wages. What's the problem here?
I've been writing a nanopunk novel set in 2070 in my spare time. A few months ago I wrote a section where I described how this had happened many decades earlier and a "compromise" was reached where the longshoremen "oversee" the automation--basically sitting around doing nothing.
I am sure you already know this, but just in case. There is a wonderful book called โThe Boxโ by Mark Levinson that outlines and provides a vivid history of the coming of the standardized shipping container that unleashed global trade. Very much worth reading.
What are other major ports doing? Amsterdam?Hon Kong? Tokyo?
US will likely have to reckon with Universal Basic Income much sooner than anyone is prepared for.
Specious analogy. It'd be more like, "candlemaekers" union demands a total ban on automated candlemakers.
I wonder what we're gonna all do as AI grows.
We need to be able to plan at least the near future so as to function reasonably well.
It feels at present like this is going to go away.
You do realise that automation will happen to 90+% of ALL jobs, including yours...
When will you be calling on the Candle makers union?

one thing for sure ButtJudge is useless. If there was anything to learn about freight handling ,he never learned it.
โCEO Unions demand a total ban on employee unions and dismantling existing unions.โ

Some Unions deserve to be busted. The International Longshoremen's Union is one if them.
damn thats crazy. perhaps the companies should negotiate with the union and make concessions to avoid this outcome
Shut the fuck up you clueless motherfucking Cunt. Power to the motherfucking proletariat bitch.
Just the start.
The crane will *know* whats in each container. Smart contracts, blockchains, bitcoin.
AI organizing with other AI's logistics and billing. No old fashioned bank accounts required.

Oh, look. Union clowns pretending not to retard economic progress, and cheaper transport costs for consumer goods and producer goods.

I am flabbergasted by how people who manage to owe more on their student loans after two decades than the original principal deal with other loans
Do you just make minimum payments on your credit card too and then wonder why the numbers get bigger every month?

Americans with student loans are out here begging people to listen because we are spending DECADES paying on these loans, but the balances never move. I have paid my entire loan balance from 2006 + $10,000, & I still owe more than the original loan. THIS IS CALLED USURY, & it is

The dread of school could be mitigated 75% by just letting kids sleep in. Teenagers need so much more sleep and without adequate amounts turn into depressive, irritable basket cases.

Having been exposed to organized sports for young kids (under 10) for a while now, I'm ready to burn all of modern parenting practices to the ground, throw it all out and start over
These kids should be engaged in free play, not a bad simulacrum of soccer
Today, my dad got a phone call no parent ever wants to get. He heard me tell him I was in a serious car accident, injured, and under arrest for a DUI and I needed $30,000 to be bailed out of jail.
But it wasn't me. There was no accident. It was an AI scam.
