It seems like the way to test this would be to run some explicitly degrowth candidates in blue or — even better — purple or red districts and states. It's pretty easy to field candidates in primaries, more ideologies should try it. Polls tell you a lot less than elections.

My new favorite study of 2025 thus far: there is a lot of support among the US public for ecosocialist (degrowthish) policy. “This study paves the way for new strategies for a transition that enhances well-being & reduces dependence on economic growth.” phys.org/news/2025-01-h

Because tone is hard on X, this is not snark. I'm skeptical degrowth is politically viable at real levels of specificity or ambition, but I could be wrong. But I'd like to see more ideologies field candidates. Elections deliver real information that polls don't.

Last time we listened to eggheads and reformed democracy we got primary elections. This is a direct cause of Donald Trump becoming president.
