May sound insignificant but these weather balloons are critical to every single aspect of weather forecasting Only 92 sites in the U.S. launch them (OAK is one) they’re the single greatest tool in dissecting the atmosphere Losing any one of them = worse accuracy in any forecast

Here we go. Weather models and services could be impacted by the firing of NWS/NOAA meteorologists that started today. Effective immediately and until further notice, the National Weather Service (NWS) is indefinitely suspending weather balloon launches at Kotzebue, Alaska

Right now is something like ~50% as much in-situ upper atmosphere data as all of NWS combined, for a fraction of the the cost with long duration balloons. We do work with NOAA already but would love to do more and provide more data to NOAA!
That's ok, no need for accurate weather forecasts because we already know climate change is not real. 🤦
I can hardly say how angry this makes me. These are essential services.
Does the U.S. mil have its own separate weather service in Alaska? If not,how can this NOT be a National Security issue?
