Don't they go together as essentially viewing the world as a stream of optionality?
No real difference between "If I marry Jim what if I meet someone better in 5 years" and "If I have a kid, what if I want to fly off to Paris in 5 years".
Is this downstream of stressing

Interesting graph!
Shows that the percentage married is decreasing (now is that due to death of a spouse due to difference in age expectancy for the sexes and overall life expectancy increase?
But the other thing is single no kids is increasing as well, but actually at a slower

No it is not "driven" - correlation is not causation.
Many couples who don't want kids or haven't had kids for other reasons simply don't see the point in getting married since they don't have kids.
More marriage wouldn't magically cause people to have kids.
Not completely true. The graph doesn’t take into account the umber of children per household, only whether there are any.
And yet all of the concerned pro natalist public figures say very little about the marriage rate. Probably because many of them are divorced or into other alternative lifestyles
Correlation is not necessarily causation.
My hot take is the plunging birthrate is related to women being able to get their oxytocin from more convenient sources.
It's urbanization. In regards to human interactions, there is no new thing under the sun.

That's honestly surprising; there are a lot more 70-year-old couples today than there were in 1970!
This could also be the sum of two different shifts "down the ladder" right? Like 10% go from married/kids to married/no kids, and at the same time, 10% go from married/no kids to not married.
Not sure if this is the intention but "driven" implies the causality goes one way.
It's plausible the causality could go in the other direction too: people who want to have kids are more likely to get married. i.e. The decrease in marriage is driven by childlessness.
I would argue it is more linked to an increase in loneliness.
Let's no make it sound like the problem is young couples not wanting to get married!
probably it's mainly driven by married couples who has less children, while still having at least one. I'd like to see the evolution of couples with three children.

Decrease in interest in having a child drives decrease in urgency to marry.
Couple formation (lack thereof) looks like a more likely probable cause, with decision to not marry as a possible second.
Maybe there's an excess of living space, with so many people affording to live alone.
Of course, age is a significant factor which this graph ignores.
Note that under these definitions, most grandparents, while certainly not "childless", will count in one of the "no kids" categories
Go out and have some kids
This graph is damming for the future of American society (hint there won't be one bc there won't be enough people)
Thing is, the purpose of marriage is child rearing. A disinterest in having children is part of the reason marriage rates are falling.
