So the upshot here is that instead of DOGE working on making the government more efficient, it’s going to be a vehicle for Musk to get classified information he can swap to Beijing for political favors for his companies? Fun.

Weird take given that the only place the Biden initiated that really worked was chip manufacturing. The rural comms, the power stations… were hopelessly bloated. And Trump and Musk are much more likely to do something about the bloat generally.
I do think we are in for a period of geopolitical instability as the US leaves NATO. Putin will go after the Balkans if /when he stabilizes the situation in Ukraine. Xi wants Taiwan. Israel wants dominance over more territory in the Middle East.
Feel like the biggest insurance against this is vanity. Hard to see this type of looting not affect stocks and markets, but downward pressure there seems to be a stick he really responds to. I think TESLA tanking when trump yanks contracts much more plausible
Voters don't want your Cold War 2.0. Russia and China will act in their own interests. So should America. That includes ending pointless wars and cooperating where appropriate.
Your anguish is highly enjoyable and your frustration induced premature balding (ahst little hair you have left) even more so. Have fun! It's going to be a veryyy long 4 years 😉
Given that 80% of global ship building capacity is either in China or within cruise missile range of China, it's not like we were winning under Biden either. WW 3 is a naval war and we can't make ships.
I think there seems to be some hope that trump is so eager to prove himself unpredictable and contrarian that he just wont do a lot of the bad things he promised he would, and will do a lot of random things instead that may be neutral or good
The battle over Tik Tok is really just part two of the opium wars. But the tables have turned... For we cannot and will not manufacture them anymore.
The plan is to immiserate the American people until they are eating from the corporate overlords’ hands. The worst people in the world will use the US as a homebase for operations and protection from the harshness of the world that they create and also profit from.
The other reason we are cooked is because China is preparing its young for a world of advanced manufacturing while our President is preparing our young for a world of influencing and shitcoins.
Yeah, that pretty much sums up the parts we can anticipate... though I'd throw in that even in 2019, with three years of "if there's ever a crisis" under our belts, nobody had that truly awful covid response on their bingo card.
There are so many things wrong here. Trump started the "bring back manufacturing" policies. Tariffs are on Imports. America has the lowest tariffs in the world. If you're really interested in geopolitics, you must increase your sources of information.
Keeping a sense of proportion and intellectual humility is important. However, it's key in times like these not to fall into a sense of cynical detachment. You (and many others) have agency to preserve the best and prevent the worst
And MAGA brownshirts have the all-clear to intimate polling places, destroy future electoral counts, and any who obey the laws know they'll be punished. Good luck having free and fair elections from now on.
This seems extremely disconnected from reality. Just to take one point- Trump is the one who put tariffs in place to rebuild manufacturing and it started bearing fruit during Biden admin because he kept Trump’s course.
