Part of the problem is they get much of what they want just by creating uncertainty, even if the courts ultimately stop them. If you’re a foreign student who can get into Havard you can go anywhere. Are you really committing four years of your life (and a hefty tuition) under these circumstances?
That was fast.

Even if there’s “only” a ten percent chance you get abducted by masked goons & deported a year into your university education, why take the risk? Go to Oxford or the Sorbonne, somewhere with a functioning democratic government that welcomes talent.
Julian, Right on 100%!!! Why would you risk yourself coming to America?!
Harvard could seriously call their bluff by setting up a "Harvard North" in like Ottawa. Same degree, same professors, sane country.
A bigger part of the problem is headlines like this one, in which the press pretends that a court order PREVENTS the administration from doing something, rather than just PROHIBITS them for doing something. They mostly do whatever the they want, courts be damned.
"Nice system of time-tested societal norms you got there, be a shame if something happened to it."
Can’t imagine anyone, players included, coming to the World Cup.
I think this happened BEFORE the administration
ordered international students out oh Harvard or they would lose there legal status. So I guess they are just thumbing their nose at another federal court order?
Different issue from the one in today's action against Harvard! This one's been cooking for a month
That ducking sound you'll heterosexual is the US brain drain happening right now
Why would any international student, especially one of color, want to come to the USA for school under these turbulent conditions?
Okay I take your point; many of these students will seek other universities outside the US. But this is devastating for *current* internatl students whose families have sunk life savings into tuition and cannot easily transfer elsewhere. Source: I knew many such students at Harvard in grad school.
trmp is an inserted, foreign adversarial tool and his MO is to dig in. #PushingTheEnvelope
We’re into a massive ethical and moral test upon humanity. 👹
How long until another country designates the US as terrorist state?
And there's the problem for universities that don't have Harvard's endowment and donor base who rely on foreign students' tuition payment. State universities included. $53 billion a year paid into our education system is under threat.
It will cease being a problem once those universities are owned by Andreesen, Ellison, and the Paypal mafia.
The Trump Gestapo knows the major universities depend on foreign students paying full tuition. Cut the flow of foreign students, kneecap the university.
Depends on how hard they double down. I feel like they are trying to find a game of chicken where they have an excuse to go in
But also, this ruling is totally unrelated to the Harvard thing. Both do involve SEVIS, but not related.
Bingo. Same thought into stuff like Muslim Ban & threatening to imprison ppl who help immigrants. Even if it’s illegal & unconstitutional do you risk being disappeared or separated from your family if they just do it anyway?
