Many people are saying that people who’ve been living and working here for years and have no record of committing non-immigration crimes should be given an opportunity to come out of the shadows, pay a fine and back taxes, and get legal work permits.

Many people have been saying this for decades and it’s gotten us to where we are. Maybe it’s not a good idea.
I robbed a bank, but I’ve been living and working for years and have not committed any other crimes. Do I get to keep the money I stole?
If it wasn't a dynamic system I would agree but doing this would simply incentivive more illegal border crossing. Perhaps combining it with a guest worker program might mitigate that.
I feel like when it comes to immigration there's gotta be some sorta system where "Employer is willing to hire you, and you are willing to pay some additional visa fees on top of taxes" is sufficient to get a work visa. Then move the fees up/down to modulate total immigration.
Many have paid some or all taxes, some legally and many with stolen Social Security numbers.
A ginormous mess.
The problem for this comes from democrats who insist on the “path to citizenship “ as part of any deal.
Agreed—common-sense solutions like this benefit everyone. ’s takes on policy impacts always add clarity. Fair pathways forward make economic and moral sense.
Hey, Matt, I bet you never thought you'd be posting on Stormfront, but life's a funny thing.
“Changes are coming” but they will be fascist changes. Rich bosses who pay to play will be left alone to exploit a vulnerable work force (Think of Schindler but with a whip instead of a list). Everyone else will continue to be terrorized until we eliminate the fascist threat.
The problem is that those people don't win Senate and House elections. So, there are then people who act like they can destroy stuff and get what they want anyway. There has always been an anarchist strain within American politics.
"many people are saying" your wife's boyfriend is hardly many people, matt. please be serious
